After working almost 14 hrs. straight a week ago Monday, I wasn't really in the mood for any BS after I finally left my office. Halfway home, some kid in a black on black late model Mustang rolled up on me and start revving and leaping next to me wanting to race. A cute blond was riding shotgun with him, and he had the standard NOS sticker on his side windows and you could see a large aftermarket tach illuminated on his dash top. After a block or two of him making an *** out of himself, I'd had about enough.

Now, I've been driving thru my town the same route for 20 years. I know every hiding place and when most of the cops are there. (I know half of them too) I also know my town has a new "stealth" cop car, a dark charcoal grey Dodge Charger with no lights on it. He has a habit of hiding in the median in the dark, but I know to look for him. After making it to the "safe zone", the highway where the speed limit picks up anyway, and which happens to be right in front of the local police station, I decided it was time to show this punk that you shouldn't mess with the old guy in the Duece coupe. He was still running right next to me, leaping on the throttle, and I just dropped it into second gear and shoved the throttle to the floor. At 5 grand I threw it into 3rd and handed him his *** in short notice. Damn that felt good! LOL. When I was turning the corner to go home, I beeped my horn at him and waved just to add to his probable insult! I drove the rest of the way home with a big smile......I'm not promoting unsafe street racing, but once in a while you still have to make a stand for the old guys! [IMG]

On a somewhat scary note, I just had the brakes redone in the car, which work really well. On the bad side, my 4-bar bushings are all going bad, and I've only replaced the drivers side. There's actually one missing from the p***enger side completely. After I smoked this guy, I ran up on a slow moving car in the right lane, and had to stand down pretty hard on the brakes. The car started cavitating from side-to-side really bad, which I wasn't expecting. (I also drive with one hand most of the time...) I had to jump off the brakes to straighten the car out, then dive into the turn land to avoid the slow car, and lay down the brakes pretty hard again. (this time with both hands on the wheel! [IMG]) An even newer update, Monday I was heading to work and about to go over to the island to get a cup of coffee when my car decided to downshift itself into low gear....After prying my head off the windshield and getting off the road, I discovered that was the ONLY gear I had. Luckily I was 2 or 3 blocks from my buddy Phil's shop so I limped it in. A cracked ring gear, torque converter and some flywheel damage. Got it back Wednesday with a new B&M unit and it's flying along just fine again! Last night, I ran into the same Mustang Guy, I came up on his drivers side this time. (You know, the one with the "Superchips" sticker on the window?) I pulled up next to him, and with his hat pulled low, he wouldn't even look at me. I followed him closely all the way down the highway......Gotta' love it......

Cool story and know the feeling for sure, but drive safe man. No need to teach a kid in a Mustang too much as generally sort of like talking to a wall. If they can't drive worth a ****, and you can pretty much ***ume they can't, and have an accident while you are racing them and someone gets hurt, guess who will be sitting behind bars. Again, not busting on you, but just be safe and keep it all within reason.

Being that I came from the late model Mustang crowd I know exactly what you mean. I've probably been in the same situation before but I cant say I was on the losing end. But to not be put in that spot I am building my 31 Model A Pick-up with a nasty aluminum headed 408 winsor and a Procharger F1 supercharger. Hopefully I'll never need to use the power for any illegal type of street racing, But if I'm feeling frisky and some import ricer or late model GM Ford or Chrysler want to play I'll hand them their *** just the same. Thanks for the good story.

Drag racers haven't killed anyone in Atlanta since...yesterday. I don't think they did it on purpose.

  6. Good thing the late model Mustang wasn't hopped up... he would have handed you your *** in a basket.

Don't kid yourself... it doesn't take much to make a late Model Mustang haul ***... I mean, really... you don't even need to touch the bottom end and you can build a 9 second car out of one... and get decent mileage and driveability to boot.

Yep Sam nowadays those hopped up mustangs would be almost impossible to beat. Great Story!
Back when the Mustangs started come out with the 5.0's, I would eat one for lunch whenever available in my heavy *** 1950 Chevy pickup mind you. It was fun, alot of the new cars are 350 hp and up. Thats playing unfair!:D

mustangs are ****IN GAY! the fact he beat him is a reality! unless the kid was a real dink, he should have beatin the hot rod...the fact that he didnt would lead me to believe the hot rod was faster! sounds logical to me!?

and don't forget a 32 weighs a LOT less than a new mustang, you don't have to have 350hp to accelerate faster.

    Great story! Thanks

I did a simular deal almost 30 yars ago. A friends friend had a fast Mustang and wanted to run my old coupe. The coupe had a 350 with a cam and a 65 fuel unit. It had a turbo 400 with the electrick kick down. The FI is instant on also. It was a rolling start thing because he had been tearing up rears. The go signal was given. The coupe went down to first and the FI let go. He was a block down in 2 blocks. He did not think an old car could go. I bracket raced it and was a low 13 car

ya but for every 9 sec stang there are a zillion others that can't break the 14s.
Trouble is 1/2 of that zillion think they have a 9 sec ride.

Not to mention that ALL the guys I know that are in 9-10sec rides don't go around try'n to prove anything to anyone..

I've done my share of street race'n, no it ain't cool.. but as said enough is enough..My fuse is a lot longer these days but will only put up with the "wanna be" people for just so long...

The big problem with new stuff is that most people, kids especially, can't afford the speed parts and haven't been around cars to know how to put them on when they can afford them. I've been there. The money I've got in my 60's car is about equal to the initial investment in a late model V-8 car. Combine the 300hp and 2800lbs and it runs right by a LT-1 Camaro with 275hp and 3500lbs. Guess which one gets noticed on the freeway.

Mustang guys are notoriously ****y too. Go to hear he ate it.

I say ********! 9 seconds is harder to get than just dreaming it. Not a lot of kids have the money and resorces to get a 9 second car, much less drive it on the street, example: look at shakey pudding, i know its heavier but theres a 9 second car, its a big block, grouted, hillborn injection, running on methanol, spool, ect. ect. he aint driving it on the street. I know it can be done and is done, but not easy! Just my .02 i aint no expert!

  18. Yea... that's what I'm saying... hot rods are sloooooooooooooooooooooooow!!!
    Hahahahaha!!! You're JOKING, right?

Actually... I get a little tired of the ******** stories of how tough hot rods are, how fast they are, how guys blew away a ricer or shut someone down with their cool rat rod.

It's the same ******** you read in Ol' Skoo' Rodz... ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!

I was cruising main, I came across this guy in a 14 second Mustang, and I blew his DOORS OFF!!

I would be MORE impressed if Mr. Mustang Eater showed me a time slip or pictures of his car at the drag strip... or better yet, video.

  19. Okay, so the kid is a dumb *** just because he's a kid... and a dreamer...

Next up... bashing kids for saggy pants and crooked hats!

Ooops... it's almost 3:30... time to leave work.

Hey, i wasn't bashing the kid, really, I guess i was commenting on your 9 second by barely pushing the pedal and getting great gas milage! How would you make that mustang go any faster than you can make a coupe go?

Put enough stickers on the car and you'll have 500 rwhp. Isn't that the way it works?? I've owned 9 and 10 second cars and the driveability wasn't bad but I didnt chance it for 100 miles. You never know and with that kind of power something will break its just when!

The kid was just probably out of NOS. Pizza sales are probably down nowadays too.

He is probably also trashing finktim over on some Mustang site.
