Anyone running a '64/'70 mustang t-10 or toploader in a T-bucket? How is the shifter position?

This will be of little help, but it should give you kind of an idea. When I mocked up that Muncie in my T, it seemed like the shifter would be under my right leg.

George, I just got a new rear ext. hsg. from Dan Willians that replaces the stock14" hsg that and it has 3 positions for the Hurst shifter mount. Just make sure the trans has 14" rear ext. hsg.
The most forward one is just behind the main body hsg. and duplicates the position on 64/5 Falcon w 10 bolt toploader. It comes in either cast iron $300, or cast aluminum $350. He also has NOS Huirst mount and kit for shifter install, arms, and rods, etc. Hurst no longer has them. Dan doesn't have the shifter unit or the stick and knob, but Hurst still has those.
Dan is in Franklin, NC. Phone Noon till Midnight 828-524-9085 Website www.toploadertransmissions.com email is

I'm in the process of installing this in my "A" roadster on '32 frame. The shifter in the most forward position is about 6" forward of what Tim has posted above.
Again, this hsg. works in plaqce of the 14" hsg. Dan can furnish parts to convert other length toploaders to this length. He also has trans and parts for sale, and a rebuilding service. .

Thanks guys, sorry I didnt log into this sooner, our power has been out all day, I am actually in a Chinese restaurant right now...
DOM, hurst actually still does have the '64/'65 falcon toploader rods arms and everything, but they only have them listed under replacement parts! They dont make the kit per-se, but you can buy every piece seperately.

If your going to use a top loader why don't you just use a Jeep shifter. I run a 3 speed full syncro in my roadster with a Jeep shifter. Puts the shifter where it is supposed to be.

I'm spending a helluva lot of money to get rid of that setup using a top loader ford 4 speed converted to use the Jeep top shifter from a T176 Tremec. Never worked anywhere near as well as a Hurst on a 4speed, so when I started also having trouble with 1-2 synchronizer, I decided it was time for a change.
And Geoge did say he wanted a 4 speed. The Jeep top shifter works, but don't expect to shift quickly.

Once you have the shifter body you need check out the Hurst handles for bench seat equipped mid-60s Impalas, muscle Mopar and tri-5 Chevys. The handles go up and over the shifter body and forward a bit centering the handle better in the car.

When I put the muncie in my T I had to relocate the shifter over about 5" to get it out from under my leg..I used a hurst w/he bolt on shift arm , cut the portion of the shifter where the arm bolts on , welded in a horiomtal piece about 5" long , then wlded the "bolt up" portion to that , that set it to he right far enough , but the sifter still contacted the seat ...so I made a new shift arm out of 3/8" SS plate thate offsets forward at about 30* above where it bolts up , also the new arm is short[ which reduces the throw ] ..works great...dave

Thanks 2old. My power just came back on, 32hrs. How tall are you, and where does the shifter line up fore and aft, mid thigh?
