  2. I'm talking about what kind of a car it is Roadster , Tub , Sedan or a Coupe, not what the factory named it. Sedan it is,

Sedan doors aren't the same. Fordor doors are too short and tudor doors don't have the slant. Also, the hinges/location is different.

well, after some deep deep thought... decided I'm gonna tap out of the banger scene... my plan with this car is to hot rod it...like 8 cyl type hotrod...I think I'm more on the streetroder side then the banger 50 hp side... I don't need my cars to be hamb approved... if fact.... all the ones I have that aren't I enjoy more...I think the bangers are cool, and love looking at them...get to keep that era going forward...soooo,... I'm stopping on this car, and gonna pass it on to some one that will truly enjoy it....ALL DONE...

Well, still at it...I took the white walls off... and put 17'' wires off my 29 RPU... I wanna do something that seems like it was real easy 50 yrs ago...but, I have CRS real bad... seems like all I did was remove the axel and send it to mordrop or something like that...they made the axel 4'' drop and sent it back... I remember using a rose bud and heating the steering arms... doing that to me was dangerous A/F... but the ol timer that was helping me assured me that "They do it all the time"... anywaay... I wanna lower the front... but wanna keep the wishbone as is...seems it would be easy to just order the axel dropped " from speedway or someone.. but every one I talked to so far has conflicting answers... I know I have to do something about the tie rod and lowering the steering arms... but also hear to change the spindles??? which brings the question... do I just order the 4'' drop kit with hair pins...I already have a new reverse eye front spring..
can I buy the right axel that my brakes will work???, (they are juice now and work)..... as in just change out the axel??? does anyone still lower stock axels???? is heating the steering arm a good or bad idea... lost in vegas...

I was thinking its was a Coupe converted into a Vicky...that was why I thought you said Coupe or Sedan...a bit of a play on the journey this Hotrod has been on...I like it...

what I want to do is stay on the period correct for pre 50... so scope of work is where i'm at, the think it out part...so In my head, this is what I think could happen... get the right axel and pull the king pins and put my spindles on it... lower the steering and tie rod arms to clear the frame and such.... easy right??? what am I missing??? who or where do I get the axel from... are all the 28-31 axels the same??? can I stick with the wishbone... should I go hair pin????

Glad your keeping it vintage...the signage...I like it, its well executed but this Hotrod doesn't need it. I understand you run a business so it may actually reflect that so it's an eye magnet and for that reason I can see you running it...I like the dual side pipes and it sounds pretty damn good to. You want more power...you have several choices for that era...Ford Flathead V8, early Hemi, maybe Olds...There were options in the 50 to 55 period.

@thunderbirdesq does dropped axles quite well but location may be prohibitive...the Hamb gang is pretty good at logistics sometimes...there are many your way that can no doubt handle that task as well...and of course there's aftermarket...just stay away from certain axles as they are dangerous due to how they are made.

Do some snooping around here as there are many with a coupes and sedans that have done these mods with pretty good information both visual and written. @ModelAMitch comes to mind @Tim has a Sedan down low in front as well...

I looked up Model A Mitch's Thread and the link below you can clic on and it takes you to where he discussed using a 32 heavy axle in his Sedan.

He also prior to that reversed the eye on his main leave in the front spring pack...a spring shop or Hotrod shop can usually handle such things...this gets things down without a dropped axle...

Sometimes you can greatly benefit from going thru an entire Thread such as Mitch's as you will gain a lot from doing so.

    I have a reverse eye spring on front now...see if I got this right...a 31 spring is 1'' drop.... 32-34 is 2''...so 1'' more than 31... a 4'' drop after market axel is 2'' more than a 32... and 3'' more than a 31...??? kinda like a sheeps a ram, a donkeys an ass...but a ram in the ass is a goose???

Heating the arms & letting them cool slowly is the way lots of folk successfully do it, don't quench them in water that will make them brittle

  26. Yep... I will contribute a little more information to the cause for the future...

    Post from Ford Barn:

Hard Times, post #7: "The integral running board/splash apron (with separate 'nose' piece tacked to front fender) is for EARLY 1930."
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not quite true. Actually, it ran for the entire 1930 production year, with a mixed configuration of both types in the last quarter of the 1930 production year.
Referring to the RESTORATION GUIDELINES, pg 13-6:

"From the introduction of the 1930 Model, through September 1930, a two-piece shield [splash apron] was used. The front portion was spot welded to the fender. The remaining portion was an integral part of the running board. Beginning in September 1930, a one piece shield began appearing. The transition from the two piece shield was completed in all plants in December 1930."

These GUIDELINES really are an important resource that should be in everyone's Model A library. They do an excellent job of clarifying a great many 'grey areas' and correct a great many half-truths and erroneous information. Like me, a great many of us old codgers 'shoot from the hip' relying on faulty memories of what we once knew, as well as passing on our own long held beliefs - some valid, some of questionable validity.

Sometimes, when I really need to know the actual documented and validated 'truth', or when I question an answer, I brake down and pull out my GUIDELINES to get the real truth. They have been a tremendous help to me over the years.

    - Doug Vieyra - older than dirt,
with a memory as clear as the Oklahoma Dust Bowl
