I wouldn't do anything with the rear until you've got a couple thousand miles on it. I'm betting after about that milage your going to really happy with how it sits. After using 4 of these rear setups they all settled just about the amount your looking for. Don't be afraid to get on some rougher back roads with it (it speeds up the settling process) and it won't hurt the car at all. Remember back when these were new a majority of the roads weren't paved yet. And like someone suggested if you used the gas shocks I'd substitute some regular ones.

NASTY! NASTY!-great job DAN. Don't let people dictate your ride or ride height. It looks great. If it had the ride height of a monster truck* it would still be AWSOME!

Wow that is a lot of inspiration for my next project. Love the car, enjoy it!
I showed the pic to my wife and she liked the color. It looks like my 35 3w will be blue; that way the paint job is easier for me to sell; if not it will stay in primer for a bit ;)

    I DIG IT!
Building a '36 5-window myself and keeping the mods subtle too.
I wouldn't kick the Kirk Hammet '36 out of my garage but man, these cars just look great when left mostly stock. Beautiful deco swoopyness and great details everywhere.
    Enjoy it!

Thanks for all the great comments!

This is the same car. I threw it together just in time to make the HCPU, and took it back apart this winter to change a few things and work some bugs out.

I even managed to park it next to my ol' Riv. I had some huge lowering blocks on it in this pic, and I loved the stance, but it had axle wrap something fierce.

That is what my hopes are. Most of these springs I see are completely flat, some even have negative arch. Mine still have quite a bit of arch to them so hopefully after a summer of driving it, they will settle down a bit. If not I will change out the shocks and maybe even remove a leaf.

Great looking car, Dan. Love the body paint and wheel combo, and the dash, and the banjo wheel, and the stance, and ............

Thanks again for all the complements.

The rear ride height was driving me nuts, so I finally removed the helper spring from the rear spring packs. That lowered it a little over 1", and it is close to where I wanted it to sit. I think it will settle even more as I get some miles on it. The best part is that the car rides way better, and my spring wrap issues are gone.

I also picked up some original 1940 Ford accessory inner trim rings at a swap meet last weekend. I'm not sure if I even like them on there yet, but I went ahead an polished them up, knocked the dings out of them, and threw them on just to see what they looked like... I'm still on the fence.

Nice build, started with a nice car, improved the drive train and supension, reused almost everything. Looks great and sure beats taking a field car and building it.

The car looks great. My dad used Chassis Engineering springs on the back of his 40 with 2" blocks. After a while the back settled down and he had to remove the blocks. I would wait and see how it settles.

This may seem like a stupid question, but with the front end that low do you still have full turning radius?

  27. Great job! You took a "run of the mill" 36 and made it really stand out. Great use of colors. How do you get the photo effects, is it Photoshop?

Yeah I'm sure it will settle more. I put the helper springs up on the shelf just incase I may need them again. Right now the springs are nearly flat, w/ just a tad bit of negative arch.

Originally I had no issues with rubbing, but over the last few weeks, I think the front has settled even more and it will rub at full lock both directions. It is not terrible, but I may raise it up a bit w/ a block under the spring if it settles any more.

Thanks! The pics were taken w/ a "Retro Camera" application on my phone. I'm amazed at the things you can do w/ a damn camera phone now days!
