Block is going to the machinists this weekend.

The donor block and crank is from a '04 Suburban.

    5.3, boring out to a 5.7.

Well after sending the block away to the machinists, we finally have it back - they are super busy and have a large backlog. We sent it to Thunder Works Engines, who specialize in building High Performance engines. http://www.thunderworksengines.com

The engine is now a 383 ci. Thunder Works decked and O ringed the block, bored & honed the cylinders, align bored the block, assembled the bearings, rods, pistons. Installed a new 4" stroke forged crank, new oil pump and balanced the engine.

  7. I used to catch a ride home from high school in one that looked just like that. Wonder if it's the same one. L.A., Ca.

The car wasn't in LA back then but if you said Fresno or Marin County, than it just might be

Picked this LS1 LS6 Holley Weiand Cathedral Port High Flow Intake w/ FAST Billet Rails, 36lb Injectors, & Stock Throttle Body off of Ebay. Needs a little bit of a clean up. Will be replacing the injectors with higher lb ones and selling the 36 lb ones.

Great looking car! Just a heads up though, you are going to get hammered here for that ls engine. I am personally a fan, but they don't really belong on a traditional forum and I'd hate to see this thread get deleted. Focus more on the traditional aspects of the build and maybe you will be ok. Can't wait to see the rest of the build.

Thanks, but I'm unsure why it would get "hammered" as it's tagged as "customs", which by definition is what this is, i.e. upgrading the engine as well as the whole car!?

I do plan to cover the whole build in detail, it's just right now I'm working on the drive line as I get ready to take the body off the frame.

just to mix up some of the engine build pics, here's some previous work we did to convert the non existent front drum brakes over to disc brakes... used the scare bird kit that you can get off of ebay.

You'll get hammered because its not a traditional engine. This site is for traditional builds only i.e. built like it would have been before 1965.

sorry newbie here, where do you suggest i put the thread not to offend anyone? Clearly my definition of what a custom is, is different than what's expected here, i.e. mild to wild - (i will be completely customizing the car from the frame up). I did change the sub heading to projects, but I'm guessing this might still not work!? Appreciate any suggestions.

Your definition of custom is not the issue. The term custom can be applied to a lot of things, it just needs to be a traditional custom. Where you posted is fine but you need to either change your power plant or just not post much about the engine itself and focus this thread on the rest of the car (assuming that it will be traditional styled). I'm kinda of a newbe myself as far as post counts go but I've been a lurker for a few years now so I have some knowledge but don't have all the answers.

Oh and stuff like the modern disk brakes I don't think is a big deal just the motor is the main issue.

I thought I would post some history on this car. I bought it May 2013 from the daughter of the 2nd owner. Apart from the first owner and first year, this car has been in California since then (Fresno then Marin County). Prior to that I think it was in NC. So it wasn't subject to the ravages of salted roads.

Here's one of the first pink slips for this car from 1956.

By 1982 this car needed some TLC and the first restoration work was begun by the owner.

Here are some pics and notes/invoices for the body/paint/rechroming work.
