Nice project truck - looks like you're having fun with it! Be careful, they start following you home..... back in '99 i bought my 48 F1 project that's been a daily driver since '01. Now I have 5 of the early F-series around here. 48 F1, 52 F2, 50 F4 and a pair 48 and 52 F6's and they're all great!
@RHOPPER Thanks! We will just have to figure something out. I'm sure me and my pps can come up with something. Thanks for the tips! @hank50car I'd be interested but you live on the other side of the country unless you shipped but we'd have to talk about it @mtflat Jeez you got alot haha. I wouldn't mind picking up another F1 maybe a '51 and up instead. Alternate between the two. I got myself another little job so I'll start having more money to throw at this. My dads been wanting an automatic transmission for a while and im going to try to find a nice 390 crank. I'm going to email the guy and see whats up with the grill. When I get home I'm going to finish wiring up the front and back lights. I should have pics tomorrow.
which wiring harness are you using? I'm getting ready to rewire a F1 so i'm open to your suggestions. thanks,....jack
Hi 1950F1 I was wondering do you have any pictures of how your mirrors were mounder to your doors in the first picture of your truck. I would like to do mine the same. Cheers, Paul
@hank50car: Sounds good to me. @jack orchard: I went to speedwaymotors.com and got the 20 circuit wiring harness for around $150. Very detailed instructions. Simple install. Me and my dad are about done with it. @ Paul D: I'll try to get pictures asap. The mirrior is actually goes on a bracket that goes on the top door hinge. On the outside of the truck(with the door shut) it has that pin that holds the door on, you slip that pin out put the bracket on then slip the pin back on. We recently finished wiring up the front/back lights. Turn signals and all. I'll try and have pics today if I can. Right now I am working on the running board braces. I think my dad wants to try and make some custom wood running boards.
We decided to relocate the gas tank to the bed. I plan on making a wood trunk I guess you could say that sill house the gas tank to make it look nice. Then we plan on taking out the steering column and doing something more simple.
PaulD I don't know how long it will be till I can get pictures since I dont have a digicam at the moment. If you go on lmctruck and search mirrors under the correct catalog it has a picture and you can kind of see what the mount looks like 496156
I'm getting an iPod touch with a camera so I'll have pics up later today of the lights and everything. Ill also get a more clear pic of the mirror mount for you PaulD. Hopefully after we figure something out for the steering coulmn I can start on a panel that goes under the dash to the firewall to hide the wiring and give it that clean simple look.
I have been unable to post a picture due to me being technologically challenged.I pulled the grill out in the daylight and the grill bars are dented nothing that can't be massaged out . I can send you a picture via email or cellphone. Hank
@ hank50car: My email is jesse228049@yahoo.com It's not a for sure thing that we will buy the grill, bu its something we will think about. Thanks alot. Pic of the front lights. Here PaulD
I didn't expect it to be a sure thing. I had a perfect spare grill but I'm afraid it got up and walked off. As for the grill I still have If it looks like something you can use from looking at the pictures I will send it to you and you can decide what its worth to you cash trade doesn't matter I'm trying to thin down my excess junk.
I like what I am seeing ! I am really Happy to see that Ford Fe up front ! Keep up the good work . Retro Jim
@hank50car: I understand what you mean when you say get get rid of excess stuff. I cleaned out my garage and got rid of a bunch of junk. Now lots of room. @Retro Jim: Thanks! I am happy with the FE engine. I like Chevy and such but I like to keep Ford and Ford and Chevy and Chevy as far as engine/tranny. It's a 360 which I heard is only really good for torque. I hope to put a 390 crank in it soon to get it up to a 6.4L and give it some more power. Maybe a nice cam/lifter kit and a nice carb/intake and headers so it can breathe. I'm trying to convince my pops to get this on the road before the end of summer. I understand its a hobby and I ;love owrking on it, but damn I want to start driving it already! Work on it as we cruise :]
@Paul D: No problem. Glad I could help you out. We got the bolts for the running boards. Got the drivers side ones mounted. The other ones will go on tomorrow when I get off work. Then we will start on the running boards.
I haven't got around to putting on the other running board braces(been busy with work). We ordered the front and back window from LMC. Hopefully it will be here sometime next week. Right now we are going to get some metal for the bed and for the running boards then start on the wood. I'll have some pics of the windows and the progress on the bed and running boards as we work on her some more. I might be getting a 31 Chrysler Coupe with frame and a Ford Y block. It needs quarter panels and work on the roof as someone did a lousy chop on it. Does anybody know where I can pick up a good set of steel quarter panels?
Are you using stock running boards, or are you making your own? My 51 has the braces but no boards, I was thinking of making my own, but dont have a stock template to brake off of.
We ordered the front and rear window from LMC and they sent us two rear windows instead of one front and one rear. I'll try to have a pic up soon after the front one gets here and we install them. I was at work today and my co-worker said he had a 1970 somethin Cadillac 500 c.i. he would let me have, so I plan on picking that up when I can make some room in my garage for it. Maybe throw it in that 31 Chrysler if I get my hands on it.
Front window came in a couple days ago. I'll have pics after we install it. I've been looking around for a 390 engine to replace the 360. Hopefully I can make it to my friends house soon to pick up the Cadi engine.
Haven't been on in a little while. We got the front glass installed. Much easier then the rear. We tried multiple times to install the rear glass but nothing has seemed to work. We will have to call someone to install it. I'll have pics of the front windshield later today. Hopefully I'll have enough money saved up soon to buy a Jag XJ6 front clip to do an IFS setup and then I will work on lowering the back. @ 55 DelRay: We are going to make our own out of wood. I'll get pics up after we start on them and if I can make a well drawn out template, I'll let you know.
Yesterday I started on a cover to go from under the dash to the firewall to hide all the wiring. I got it cut yesterday. I just have to bend the edges and hit it with some paint. I'll try to have this updated more often. Neither my Father nor I have had time to work on it lately.
Wow haven't been on here for a while. Me and my pops haven't done much work since he has been traveling a lot. Tomorrow we are buying a rebuilt C6 auto to go in place of the manual. I also picked up a Ford 8.8 with 3.73. Do you guys think with a mostly stock 360FE those gears would be fine for cruising the highway? I will have pics up tomorrow
Glad to see you are back at it. Looking forward to seeing more progress. To me I think you would be good on the eway, but there are some C6 pros on here that might know better... I went with an AOD because the price was right.
