i think it sits great and i bet it still rides good:cool:

  7. Well the body of my car is channeled over a 70's GM frame, in fact it drives probably nicer than most Mercurys I would guess.

But I I think I will eventually lower it some more once I decide whether I cut a coil from what I have or try another set of springs.

I haven't had time to touch the car for a while, I had two work trips and today we did a lot of family stuff. So I might get to sneak out there tomorrow, finish sanding the grille and maybe work on the moldings some.

  8. I need to bring it by Joe now.

  9. John, I just went to Ace Hardware and got all mine. The Ace by me sells them all different sizes and by the piece so I could just pick out the lengths and numbers of each I needed. They were like 8 or 15 cents a piece.

  10. What size are they? My old ones were thrown away. :)

  11. Hmmmm....maybe #8? I forget...it's been a while. I'll see if I can find any left in the shop in the next few days and see for sure.

  12. I'm thinking to add a ribbed trim ring.

I'm thinking to add ribbed trim rings whachoo guys think?

  13. I think you need hub caps!:D

  14. I didn't make the grade for the traditional custom forum so doesn't seem like it matters? :)

  15. What he said. It´s not quite right without them IMHO.

Like where you´re going with the floating grill.

  16. Thanks James means a lot to hear that from guys like yourself. I should have it mounted some time this month.

  17. Okay I need some help.

Can anyone tell me the bolt sizes for the interior moldings sides, and windshield? #6, #8? I need to source some mine were thrown out.

  18. Sorry John, I looked in the shop the other day to see if I had any left, but I guess I only bought what I needed since I didn't find any left over. Sorry I forgot to respond back. I do remember several of my holes were "wallerred" out and I had to buy some in larger sizes. Not much help there, sorry. :(

I'll check the shop manual and parts book I have, to see if there is any info.

According to the 1951 Mercury Body Parts Catalog (page 10) the screws that hold the inner windshield molding in are part # 52388-S13, screw (oval head cross recessed) - No. 8-15 x 1 1/2 inch. You need 14 or 16 of them according to the manual. Convertible screws are 2 in. long.

  21. Thanks guys, I'll get on this as soon I as I get back from our OT racing at Indy this weekend. I have no idea what 8-15 means I'll have to do some googling. :)

  22. Means screw size and threads per inch so that is more like a sheet metal screw than a machine screw which would normally be 8-32.

It means; A size number 8 screw that has 15 threads per inch.

  26. My retired father in law needed a project so he took my garnish mouldings back to MI to do some body work on them.

The plan is to leave them in primer until I decide what color to paint them. I'm thinking white right now.

This blue is the navy blue restoleum, that's how dark my car is:

I still see some trim rings making their way onto my not quite traditional car: :)
