  1. Congats John, your paint looks real GOOD!!!! I really dig the color,If I remember right, you posted a picture of a old fighter plane that was that same color blue.I think that I was posting about the stance of that plane. Anyway, your car looks great man.

something like this. the rear 1/4 windows on the greyish merc are staitionary like yours. on the red car they pop out. so you have to cut the original style rubber down to fit, same goes with the front windows when you get them. and the last pic is of the "quick trim" stuff i was telling you about the other day.

forgot to say the car looks BITCHN TOO!!!!

  4. Chad aka Django of HRCC suggested Ford Lyons Blue and also that fighter plane color. We could not find the fighter plane paint anywhere. We made 5 test panels, and went with Lyons Blue. But a week later we changed the black in that paint to a darker black.

I'll be running a '51 rear bumper, and a '50 front. We are going to look for another set of rims, fix 'em up, and then I would order white walls.

Matt, I'll give you a jingle tomorrow about the window trim, thanks again for all your help. If anyone is building a Merc, I highly suggest you contact Matt, and have him help you out. Having him consult on your project and working out something for his time is the way to go... So many questions crop up.

Does everyone's radiator look like that? Mine has side tanks and is 21 inches wide.

How about using the Mercury centers from a stock 1951 Mercury hubcap.
Not sure if the whole center is a separate piece. But even if only the head comes of it would already be a nice center to put on the Studebaker hubcap.

That looks great John! Can't wait to see it in the sunlight. Nice choice of colors bro. It really shows the depth of the lines on the merc.

  10. Not in love with the wheel covers but man that car looks good now! Great colour choice.

  11. Wow.
    What a transformation.
I remember when you got that car...
    Wow..

  12. What a difference from the red and flamed monstrosity that you started with! Great work.

  13. Noone misses the McDonald's Merc eh....

BTW, look at how crappy the door fitted on the passenger side.

Wow John, it's looking good! Looks like some nice & straight bodywork too. I like the color too...you don't see too many Mercs in that shade.

  16. 51, I'm just now realizing all the little things I never sorted out. Making a lot of calls last couple of days.

I'll have to agree with you there. $$$$ I think you are going to need them though, to make those hubcaps really work.

  21. Yeah I think my car has 205's on there, I have to check. I don't think I'm going to run my Studebaker hubcaps until I have restored some of them... So not sure what will be on the car... Might be time for trim rings and spider caps... hmmm (just for now).

john did you get my pm??

  23. If you spend money on anything, spend it on the tyres. They can make or break a car. Doesn't matter how good the rest is, the wrong tyres will kill it.

  24. Hey Matt, last pm was the one that started with "buy the stock front window rubber and..."

I am totally going to buy wide white wall radials just investigating Coker vs. BFG's.

  25. Densie (hotrodcrusrlady) swears by her Diamondbacks. You might check them out as well.

Let me know if you replace it and what you use, trying to determine if I should alter my stock one or replace it.

    John

  27. I am using stock rear window weatherstripping, will not be altered. I am using stock front windshield weatherstripping, will need to be cut down. I'm a little confused about what to use for the sides, this is what was used for my now fixed rear quarter windows:

  29. What a great save! You see......it IS possible to bring back a fucked up car! You are doing a fantastic job. All your questions and homework paid off!!!! Don't cut corners though! Wait for the money or source to finish it off right. Don't settle for shit. That's alot of work,to not complete the job.
I can just imagine how fantastic it will look with all the chrome on...

  30. Man it would be a shame if I put modern rims on this car... so tempting. :)
