  1. Yeah I am one of the very few who can say they love going to work and actually mean it.

Yes Joe I have lucked out and cannot thank him enough..if he hadn't stepped in it would still be in my driveway. And I thought of that..would like to get a chrome wrap around bumper and french it in a little...I have a chrome flat one.. :p

  2. And here is the rear end I got for free today. It's a 76 new yorker with 3.25 gears I think he said (will double check later) it has good brakes, not a posi....anyways cannot beat free and it's alot stronger than the volare rear end.

That rear end has the spring pads above the axle - that NORMALLY says truck or van - I don't know anything about New Yorkers, but would be surprised if it had the pads like that. You should check the ratio - it might be a lot lower if a truck or van axle.

The personality of the truck is starting to take shape.

Its a good feeling getting something down on all fours after along time....

Good job dude! Keep bangin at it!

  6. The guy I got it from had modified it for his 54 F100..

  9. Thank you Tim. Did you ever see my work's 59 I'm building on facebook?

  10. Yes! :)

  11. Hey Jon.. Pick up the Classic Truck on the newstand now (august) now for bumper inspiration.. Two 59's on the cover both with chrome wrap around front bumpers and they look pretty good.. I'm wanting to say they were 55 Chevy bumpers but i may be off..

  12. Yeah I was sure and grabbed that and yes your right 55 chevy p/u bumpers...SWEET!

I see you took my advice for the 8 3/4 Mopar!! Big brakes are a plus and the 3.23 gears are great street and hwy gears.

I was thinking of doing a 55 chevy bumper and got one from a friend to use for mock up. Turns out they are really thick/tall looking for the ford front end. BUT if you take your plasma cutter and trim an inch or more off the top it will thin it down to blend better with the ford front. Oh and I think it looks best flipped upside down. My truck has the early frame horns like the 56 fords and the bumper sticks way out in front but the later frames tuck the bumber in a little closer for a better look. Im torn between doing the custom 55 bumper and shortening the frame horns or just getting a flat 53-57 bumper and keeping it stock.

don't do it. shorten the horns. you'll be glad you did. many examples of sucked in stock bumpers. The problem with the two cover trucks, though neat, they look like a ford with a chevy bumper. my 2 cents. good luck.

  16. Yeah right now I just have a flat chrome bumper, I'd like a curved bumper. And Nick I actually just got it for free..haha

  17. Well I scored a 56 chev p/u front bumper today! mocked it up and it's not to shabby. will look better with chrome grille on. Chrome is wearing off but has no rust or dents..very straight.

  18. Hey Jon, i just got caught up. Looking great, you guys have been busy.
Guess you saw i had a name change.
As to the sale of the 32, it happened, and the cash payed for parts for my model A. :D

I don't know man, that bumper is too big imho. Me personally I don't think it looks right. Maybe if you modded it a lil bit?

  20. Thanks man...haven't heard from you in awhile.
Yeah it will sit a little lower and be in more. Right now it's just mocked up. Might even use plasma cutter and cut 1 inch out of the top..

    Nice work man.

Where are the tires from ? i like that thicker white wall

    L

  22. Thanks, the tires are Firestone 205/75/15's

  23. Keeth took the engine back to his place and plopped it in. Bought some engine mounts for the block. Will have to raise the engine to clear the tie rod...after everything is set to go the engine will get a "rattle can rebuild"

Here's a cool pic of torsion bars cranked all the way with no shocks and combined with engine weight...time to buy some Fatman dropped spindles!

  24. Hey Jon you're doing a great job with your truck. Your welds look really good, keep working on your fabrication skills, they will take you far. That 318 is as tough as Hell and will probably out live you even at your young age; about the only engine better is a small block Chevy(sorry Ford guys but it's true). It's good to see a young guy building old iron and not screwing around with some queer ass Honda. Keep it up.

  25. Thanks man. I plan to keep practicing my fab skills. It helps working at a Rod Shop. Thats good to hear it's a tough engine..:D

  26. We mocked up the flipped method...:D

Yeah, the sort of outward slope of the flipped bumper compliments the prominence of the headlight /grille treatment. Hard to put in words, but it looks good.

    Mart.
