Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Nads, Apr 25, 2013.

  1. Next thing we're going to read is that you've bought the Cadillac Jaqueline, and made her a driver...

    SUPER nice ride, my man!!!

1960 Eldorado Brougham #52. I bought it about 10 years ago from the original selling Cadillac dealer who bought it for his wife and sold it a couple years later and took it back on trade in 1969 and did not sell it for 35 years. It had the original paint, interior and chrome. One very noticable difference from all other '60 Cads is the pancake hood. There are many other not so noticable differences. I sold it about 5 years ago. It went to the UK.

BTW, she drives really well, the airbag system is on all the time, I gotta hook it up to the ignition and get a switchbox. There's a fully restored gauge cluster and housing in the trunk and a brand new clock.

The smaller, inset hood is cool.

    Congratulations!

Nads, I haven't been on here in a while but...

    Damn!

Love how the El Camino turned out.. that 61 Convertible... just... holy shit, what a machine.

    And now this.

    Good god.

    Well done indeed!

BTW, I have been looking at the one that Hyman has in St. Louis... and I keep thinking about it... Got some car funds after the Sandy disaster.. Hmmm....

I have not been in contact with the new owner since selling it. It needed paint but the chrome and leather were nice 50 year old originals. It still had the mink (or whatever animal) carpets. It was sold new at Powell Cadillac in Gastonia NC. I bought it from Mr. Powell Jr. Here are more pics you asked about. Another unique feature for the Broughams was the trunk mounted battery in a matching case.

A couple more, one showing the last time it was inspected. Another unique feature was the automatically retracting rear door quarter window. When you open the rear doors the quarter windows make it hard to enter so Cadillac engineers designed it to automatically retract straight back into the top pillar when you opened the door.

Mr Powell told me these car were built to compete with Rolls Royces and cost about as much. You could buy two new '60 Eldorado Convertibles for the price of this car.

Damn, that's neat. Looks like GM copied that roofline and used it for years to come, looks very similar to my '64 Olds 98.

You're the perfect person to own that car.

I've seen a '59 and a '60 up close; with that elegant coachbuilt Italian styling I'm surprised they didn't sell more in Europe than here. I've seen another '60 in a stash of old cars in Landers, CA back in 2005; it was (very faded and flat) silver and had Sabre wheels. Wonder if it's still there? It doesn't seem to be on the registry.

Frank you have made my day, I haven't seen this many detail shots in ages. That carpet was called mouton, it is lamb's wool, I'm not sure if mine had it.

My rear vent windows don't work as they should but I'll get em going. I fixed the trunk closer last night, I gotta figure out why the air ride is on all the time next.

I took em both out for a ride this morning and took some pics side by side, the Eldo Brougham forecasts the styling for 1961

    Nads,
What is up with the glass comment? is a piece broken or scratched? I am the guy that picked up EB#96 and she lives in SoCal now. Also white in color. I'll be taking out my passenger front glass to have a new one made since it is cracked. Hope your front or rear glass is not the problem.
Love this car. Too bad they didn't do a 2 door version huh?

Remember guys, 54 left IN THE WORLD!!! ...and 20 of those are parts cars. 34 that can drive.
Congrats Nads. Now you just need a Tucker for your rare collection.

Oh wow, we will be chatting much. The driver's door glass is cracked, it wasn't before delivery. The front and rear glass are great.

    Post some pics please.

First long drive, 150 mile round trip to Rossi's for our car club's meeting, she drove beautifully.
