Here's a little size comparison, the Capri and El Camino aren't as far as up the Caddy so it's actually even longer. I thought the El Camino and Caddy were the same length.

And this is the electrical nightmare I have to go through to make the back vent windows work.

Are you happy with the ACCUAir suspension? I lowered my 60 but I cannot get over how cool and functional the kit looks. I could lower my 60 with my iphone..

This car had air suspension from the factory but it was very troublesome, most cars that had them were converted to springs years ago.

It actually has an Air Ride system, I rewired the system from the ignition, some fool had wired it permanently to hot. It works great, I love it, but the controller is in the trunk, I ordered a key fob remote from them, the company is called Ridetech now.

Just been reading up on these since I saw your pictures. What a fantastic find and it looks a lot nicer than the 59 Eldo Brougham imho - not so slab sided.
You must have nightmares about the windshield getting damaged. That´s one huge piece of glass.

Oh man, I've been driving it, there's a company in Norway that makes a new windshield but it ain't cheap.
I think the lower fin makes the car, the 59 just doesn't look as good plus the heavier front bumper just adds bulk that I don't like.
This car drives like a dream, it's incredible.

    Fantastic score, Nads.

I had been aware of them for some time and was blown away when I saw Terry Cook's, shown here at SEMA a few years back. It's difficult to imagine how big they are until you stand next to one.

terry Cook's car is in Scandinavia now, it's only had its door handles shaved and the paint job. It was for sale forever with no takers.

  9. Gorgeous...Congrats on a great find. Use 2 hands when you pull a wheel cover, they are HEAVY & expensive.

Now, to check my book collection for you. I know I have some Brougham stuff, but it may be for the '57/'58. I still have your address.

Just for comparison, one could spend quite a while looking for the "minor" differences between a Detroit '60 Eldorado Seville and an Italian '60 Eldorado Brougham. Here's a '60 Seville my Dad had...so many differences.

I didn't know until just a week or so ago that the grilles are different too.

The 60 Cadillacs have been one of my favorites forever, I think I like the Brougham more than convertible, 4 doors forever.

  11. I just passed on a '60 flat-top sedan a friend of mine had for sale. Broke my heart to let it slip by. Was cheap too, so I could easily afford it, but I simply didn't have the space for it.

    Hi Nads,

I only realised this about 4 weeks ago! Problem is, my car has a Detroit grille instead of a Italian grille :-(

I guess it i to be expected that stuff gets changed in 50 years. It looks like my car has had a bump repaired on the front right hand side, so I am guessing this is when the grille was changed.

I have become a bit more philosophical about the whole thing, otherwise I would waste all my energy being sad ;-)

It's cool, your car is very special.
The vent window crank linkage nut had come out and when I put it in I didn't notice that a wire got crimped and when I opened the window it shorted and started a fire. It was pretty damn scary, the trunk carpet was on fire and as I was grabbing it to get it out it melted all over my fingers and did this. Luckily we got the fire out, damage is minimal, coulda lost this Caddy.

Whoa Nads, thats scary! It is so easy to do sometimes.

I must admit, I have been thinking about replacing some of the old wiring as it is pretty hard and brittle, and then also replacing the fuse block with a new one that has a few more slots. Your story has made me think that might be a good idea.

Glad to hear that you and the car remained relatively unscathed.

Beautiful Caddy. I have never seen one before. Nice! Glad that you got the fire out, that could have sucked big time. Good luck with the little resto that it needs.

Not one single person knew what it was yesterday, that's kind of a good thing.

Kinda like when I stopped at a cruise night in Tennessee while driving the Blue PA back from Canada...

I finally figured out how to program the air ride too as well as the remotes. She seems to ride best at just a few inches above ground, below what would be the factory pre-set ride height, the higher up you go the stiffer and worse the ride gets.

When set at its sweet spot the car just glides over bumps and is smooth as silk, she is truly a terrific car, it should be, it's by far the most I've ever spent on a vehicle and I'm cheap as they get.

    Hi Nads,

Is it the original air suspension or a late model system?

It's an Air Ride system but all the original air lines, air tank and air compressor are still on the car, albeit unused. The installation is beautifully done and it's safe and reliable. I just put in a remote control that for safety reasons Ridetech has set up so it only operates with the ignition off, it's easily bypassed with a switch though.

Very cool car. Beautiful. Can see where that vent window could be dangerous.

Terry Cook's Deco Rides website has (or had) one for sale. According to the description of his car, 101 of the 1960 models were built and 54 survive. 99 of the 1959 models were built and 40 of those still exist.
