Yup the outlaw was the last car I built there, the house and garage were torn down in August of 2003. I moved into the new house and garage in December
Love it such a subtle custom with so much going on at the same time !!! thanks for sharing its story .
Hard to imagine a more passionate and die hard car fanatic than you Mark - thank the Lord you have impeccable taste! Gorgeous car. Kudos to you. First brand new car that made a deep impression on me in 1961, a Miami neighbor buddy's dad pulled up in one. Made the '61 Impala extra special for me. First seat belts I ever saw in a car.
Love the car, always have. The chrome reverse wheels really make it tho. Wheels, tires, and stance. This cars got it nailed. The 4spds the cherry on top.
...And it has a W engine with six-two's...Just when I thought this car couldn't get any cooler. Great photo's and history you have with it. Probably LA built since she came from CA? X2 on saving it from the pro street death sentence. Glad to see it was in a magazine of some kind it deserves some ink.
Yup built at the LA plant 2nd week of March 1961. Can’t figure out the 14 listed after the Acc. Anyone know?
Super Sport started as a trim option. It could designate Super Sport V8 given the placement in the ACC area of the tag.
I did a bunch of searching and found that there isn't any real good info on the ACC numbers. I did see on a couple of sites that if it were an SS that it would say "sport" on that line. I knew my car wasn't a super sport. Anyone know what those ACC numbers mean??
Back when I had a 61 I did some research, and the best I could find was someone who could look them up for you, but did not post the reference material on the internets.
Brings back memories. Back in '61 I tries selling cars, found out real quick an 18YO shouldn't be in that business. But, for a while I got to drive a '61 2DRHT, red, red/white interior, 283/230HP as a demo. Still my favorite of all 60s GM products.
Body tags such as this are Fisher Body, not like Ford door tags or Mopar fender tags. Anything on them usually refers to how the car was optioned out body-wise. Engines, trans, axles are build sheet or part ID in most cases. As @squirrel well knows engine letter codes often decode as the model and trans used, I.E. 327 4bbl manual trans for a 1964 xxxxx. The majority of 64-5 GTO body tags say it's a Lemans, which it was. Anyways, maybe that can steer us into another chapter of the mystery. Just sayin...
