This one is a bit of an oddball, I bought this 9 & a bit years ago. A good friend of mine built it for the then owner who had it on the road for quite a few years. The body started out life as a 54 Popular/Anglia. It was then chopped & 'couped' and had the doors extended in the style of a 33-34 Ford Coupe. I loved it when I first saw it & every time I'd see it about I lusted after it. Fortunately I managed to buy it but emigration, big mortgage, home restoration, demanding job & 2 kids have put the timeframe back somewhat. I've managed to find the time to start rebuilding it, hopefully in time for 'Australias' Quickest Flathead. Theres now a 239 Flathead to replace the 2.5 Daimler V8 & a T5 to replace the BW auto.
From what you wrote and if it had no pics i would have thought....noooo, but that thing looks pretty cool. I just think the grill shell needs to be a little longer or deeper or something.........but apart from that, looks great, hopefully get to see it in the flesh and the flathead drags.
Here's a couple of more pics, the Hemi is out & replaced, but I'm keeping it - it needs rebuilding & I'm trying to do this on a less than shoe string budget. I can't move it outside unfortunately at the moment as theres too much **** in the way. I've got to have a clear up at some point so I can move about the shed without tripping over.
That looks like a Model Y grille, is it? You/re right about it being too shallow. You might extend it back over the radiator and treat it like a 35-37 Ford pickup grille, ought to finish up the front very nicely. That is one of the best little sedan to coupe conversions I've ever seen. Can't wait to see a shot or 30 of it outside from every angle.
I like that grill- a '32 mated with a '34 kinda look. It's a new direction and I think it looks good like it is. If the front axle was dropped a bit, that might help, maybe even drop the grill 1".
It is a Model 'Y" grille shell, but it's that narrow that I'm having problems trying to find a radiator small enough with enough capacity to cool the flattie. I thought about maybe running another radiator under the car but there's just no room. I'm thinking maybe a Kurtis Kraft style nose would solve the problem.
Looking good Bobby, Want me to come & help you move some of that **** out of the way, I have plenty of time now Cheers Charlie.
I managed to find a couple more pics of when it was outside a while back - just ignore the front grille Human Fly - thanks for the offer of the grille but I'll maybe modify the 'Y' shell
How about a Thames 1/2 ton grille? It looks a lot like a '37 Ford truck grille narrowed (ala Jake's yellow '34) but has 2 crank holes! They are really neat looking. Steve PS - wish I had one of those Daimler hemis - I want one for my Thames project.
If I could get my hands on one I'd probably use it but I've never come across one on my travels. Yeah, I'm keeping the Daimler hemi - for a rainy day, & am looking for a 3/71 blower for it
Gotta love that 3W Anglia. Amazing really . . . AND on "less than a budget"? Now if THAT isn't traditional rodding, I don't know what is! Way to go, man!
Man, this is sort of, kind of, vaguely similar to an idea I had. Yeah, I second the Thames grille. The grille on the car in the OUTSIDE shots is a good start....it just needs to be de-truncated, haha, ADD some material to the bottom similar to the '37 pickup grille. The body is really, pretty neat. Looks like a dry lakes car in the making! Hey, watchout for those freaky funnel spiders when you clean the garage.....shudder......
