Aint been here much because I been a bit lacking the desire to be here, but there are some of you that I have been wondering about and got a couple emails asking about the Plymouth. So, how are my friends here doing? Here is a pic of the Plymouth as of last week. Also, anyone who is interested, you are invited to take a gander at Tanks Inc . site that I have pretty much finished up. Still lack a few pictures of some of his stuff, but basically it's finished Ray IronHunter Rod & Custom
Never seen the the Old Rock before, but what I see looks great. Hell, don't be a stranger on my part. You got too much ride there to hide. Uh, hope I haven't offended anyone.
I saw a 30-31 Plymouth or Dodge coupe body in a barn. It also has the oval back window, very cool I think! What front end setup are you using? Transverse spring? I can't really tell in the pic.
Ray - dont stay away too much, you have too much knowledge not to share with us. The Plymouth is sweeet looooking Hope to see you on here more. Later B
Ray, that is just SICK! Look at all that clean metal. No rust anywhere to be seen. I'd really love to see those T bodys I sold to ya, all naked like that. The T coupes, not me.
Tinbender, that is nice. A litle known fact about Rocky. He runs around naked under his clothes most days, and nights. Jim
Thanks guys...your good words help the motivation! I got a box full of House of Kolor cans that are waiting to be thrown at this thing now! yeah, HotRodJosh! It does look a lot different after having some hours put into it! Long way from the "rat" I intended when I started working on it. Plowboy, it is a 40 Ford frontend on a fabbed crossmember, transverse spring with reversed eyes and split bone, 40 Lincoln plates (not on it in the picture), 45-fin 60 Buick drums. I thought about ordering a Magnum drop, but I have grown quite fond of the stock-height axle Machinos, damn right it ain't a Ford! hehe! And it aint got a damn Bowtie between the rails either! Here's a quick rundown on what it's made of; 55 Ford rear with 3:86 gears, with filled & drilled 60 Buick backing plates and 64 Buick 45-finners. Rear suspension is Air Ride Technologies triangulated 4-bar with roll-up bags mounted in front of the axle so they aren't visible from the rear. The frontend is Ford just to get that traditional look. Nothin like a Ford I-beam to say "hotrod". The tank and rear 24" of the rails are Deuce from Tanks, Inc. The rest is non-Ford/non-Chevy! Steering is a reworked Ross from a 46 Studebaker pickup converted from cross-steer to drag-link with the Pitman arm above the shaft. Banjo wheel is from a 51 Morris Minor roadster. Engine is 55 Studebaker with Edmunds intake and air cleaners (yes, FltBlk, that is the 2x2 intake I got from you) and 2 Stromberg WW's from 56 Buicks. Rear carb retained the starter switch so I'll wire that up to start the car when the accelerator is pushed. I removed the choke hardware, plugged the idle circuit on the front carb and milled off all the un-necessary meat from the body before I polished it. Valve covers are Edelbrocks originally for a Rocket Olds. I'm still looking for a pair of Edmunds for a Studebaker. ****** is a 55 Stude 3-speed with 30% overdrive, column shifted with a modified 50 Studebaker shifter. The firewall (what I am working on this evening) is from *****in. I'll post another picture once that is welded in (and the Hildebrandt filter is mounted ). Since I took the above picture, I have dropped the cowl 3" over the rails (something I had planned to do before the firewall was installed). I've also put on the chrome shocks and F1 brackets. Below is a picture of it earler today with the body dropped down. Don't pay any attention to that "spreader bar" up front! I had to weld that on temporarily in order to straighten a bent rail and probably wont remove it until I'm ready to finish the horns. Rocky, the T's are sitting in the dark waiting their turn How ya been buddy? Missed talking to you! later fellers ray
Ray nice ride ya got there. I have a 31 Dodge 4 door sedan I'm going to be working on as soon as I get it out of the woods, lol. I was thinking of turning it into a 2 door. Could you give me some specs on the body like how wide the door is, overall length of car, etc? Keep us updated, I'd like to see how it turns out. later plmczy
Rolled it outside to clean up the floor and got a shot of it from the side. This angle shows the stance much better than the other pics. plmcrazy, I'll send you some measurements Ray
Love It I'll Have to show you a pick of my chopped top 30 plymouth coupe on here when i build or find and hack up a frame for it.
Ray, heres a 3 window I had a while back, wish I would have had the room to keep it. I guess you can't keep um all...
Man, I can't believe all the ol' Mopar bodies comin outta the woodwork! C'mon fellas, lets get these things rollin. I dont particularly dislike Fords, but there are a lot of people out there that think everything this old is a Ford. When we were putting the rear suspension under it, a friend of Docs pulled up and wanted to know where I got the steel Deuce! Geez... Hey Rocky..thats great! It's gonna have a Hemi...right? I really feel kinda dumb...I have a 325hp 383 from a 59 DeSoto that I should have used for this car, or one of my Nailheads. I really think I'm going to be dissatisfied with the little S2D's punch but I guess time will tell. Suberbell, ya gotta love those coupes! I have only seen 3 of those...counting yours! 51 F-3, post a picture of what ya got! Plowboy, it IS a lot roomier than a Model A...and a Deuce for that matter. The cabin is 9 1/2 feet long from firewall to rear window, and the doors are 37" long. The Plymouth was Chrysler's division created to compete with the Ford and Chevy in those days. They made it bigger, better brakes and suspension, and priced it compe***ively. They never topped Ford and Chevy in sales, but ended up battling for 3rd with the Buick Special. Some years they had it, some years the Special took it.
Make that 4. Here is the one sitting in a shed about 3 miles from my house. Just because they did things "back in the day" doesn't necissarily make it right. This thing is all hacked up and sitting on a 50's olds ch***is. The leaf springs stick a foot out the *** and needless to say, the front end just looks horrid. The cowl is all butchered up and it sat outside for 20 years before it was drug inside. I asked him to sell it to me. He said sure, $3500. I said NO!
looking good Ray, can you give a little how-to on the valve cover swap? Offy makes 'em, but I'm sure you know that. Damn Superbell! where was I when you let that one go! here's an old pic of my Stude w/2x2, still looks the same today, still haven't deciced what to do with it Paul
well are'nt you a sight for sore ***es!?! good to see ya back Ray. i see ya on the Nailhead group but i don't have time to keep up with that group. i don't really keep up with this one either but it's a good way to get some modivation while i'm waiting for the garage to warm up. Plymouth is lookin good. keep us posted.... Mike Brimm
Ray thanks for the help. There's a fellow down the road from me that has a 31 plymouth coupe. He's gettin it together little by little every year. later plmczy
Does anyone have any vintage picks of mopar coupes? Mine was chopped, unfendered, and was probably running a v-8 a long time ago. While were on the subject does anyone have a sunvisor, rear window moulding, windshield frame, window crank guts or door latches for a late 1930 coupe?? Oh yea and a cheap frame or a set of rails which could be modified to work in western Wa Oh and some adjustable rockers, bellhousing half, flywheel, and a generator for a 331 hemi. I'll try to get some pictures eventually.-Too busy hot rodding now.
Paul, I sold that coupe a couple years ago at the Monroe swapmeet, I ran an ad in the Seattle PI for a couple of weeks prior to taking it Monroe and hardly had a call! I liked it and I had an extra set of cherry doors that went with it. Like I said you can't keep them all. Rick
That is goin to be real nice. Why did you decide to get rid of the parallel leaf original front suspension?
