I bought this YEARS ago, (when '32-'34 trucks were still reasonable!), when I went to look at some Model A parts, it was hanging in the rafters of the old guy's pole barn! His story was, he was in Idaho on business, and the morning he was leaving to come back to Michigan, while having breakfast, he noticed a flier for a local estate sale on the board in the resturant...he found several Model A's, and this '33... ...apparently, the old guy he bought it from, started on it in 1950, when he was 15 years old, and never finished it! Five inch chop, and channeled the height of a '32 frame...I bought the cab & doors, along with a Model A bed, and an A frame... Being 6'5" tall, at 250lbs, I can't even get in the thing, but, it's looks bad ass! It went into my storage building, along with all my other "projects", and sat...several years ago, my buddy Rob wanted to get rid of his '59 Ranchero, and offered to trade me for the '33 cab, box, and a '32 grille shell...I agreed, on the condition that, if he ever wanted to get rid of it, I would have first shot... He started collecting parts for it : a '32 frame, '32 front axle and 'bones, complete '48 rear with brakes & 'bones, set of four 16x4 '40 wheels, '58 Vette 283, firewall, etc., but, that was as far as he got, no assembly at all... About two years ago, he decided to down size, and offered me the truck back, (at a SUPER price!), with all the parts he scored, but, it was tucked away in his garage behind his nailhead-powered shoebox, his T-bucket, and several motorcycle projects...this last Saturday, we were finally able to extract it!
Actually, I'm down to 225 now! But I was still at 250 when I first got the truck! I still don't think I could get in it!
As they say over on the GarageJournal board when someone score just too damn good a deal, "YOU SUCK!!" I mean it in the most envious, green-with-jealousy way, and of course not in a mean way. So, what's the plan for it?
Here's some early shop yard mock up pics with an Edmunds-equipped Merc flathead I had lying around...this had to be at least 15 years ago...:
