Projects My 33 Chevy Build Thread

I am starting a Build thread for my 1933 Chevy pickup to help keep me working on the project.
I have been collecting parts for a couple of years and have most of what I need to get started. Progress will slow as I have 2 young sons helping and a day job.

The truck is in pretty good shape for its age and amount of wood in a Chevy.



The basic plan is an open wheel traditional styled pickup
Chop the top 4 inches
Reframe the cab in steel
Shorten the original frame
GMC 270 for power
H Head for the GMC thanks to hamber Casual 6
3 Stromberb 97s
I still need to find a 3 carb manifold or maker the pattens to cast one
T5 5 speed transmission from an S-10
9” ford rear-end
Buick aluminum drums for the front
Artillery wheels with back walls

Thanks I want to get working on it again.
Not much progress this summer. We sold our house and moved to a place with lots of projects. Have been working on the house instead of cars. It will be worth it as this place has a good shop and more yard space.

 

The Sheet Metal on your truck looks awesome !!! I have a 33 Cab sitting on a 32 Chevy Chassis. I am 6'6" tall so I have purchased extra doors and have extended the cab to produce a 5-window Cab. Pickup Bed will be very short and there will be no fenders, running boards or hood. I have the cab channeled the width of the frame. Once the cab is stable I am considering a very mild chop. Before the move I made some progress
Like most projects and most things that are 80 years old there were some surprises during the teardown

I knew there was damage on the passengers front fender but had not noticed the axel being bent.
I did'nt really worry about the fender as I was not planning to use them.

Once the fender was removed it was really noticeable. The front springs don’t match in length eye locations, number of leaves, shape, ect. Not too surprising but will have to be replaced or change to a different font suspension design.

At this point I am debating over whether to straighten the old frame or start over and build one from Scratch. I helped build a frame from scratch and it takes a lot of time to do it right so I am having a hard time getting excited about that project but it might have to happen.

I did get the cab off the frame and on a stand, which made my youngest son mad because it ruined his truck driving experience as it now has no steeling wheel

I have been playing with what length the bed should be and how much chop it needs.<O</O
I am thinking 4 inch chop and 6 foot bed looks right.

 

The body looks really solid....Makes up for the chassis. From your sketches I like the 5.5 bed with the 4" chop. Just my opinion ....I'm looking forward to seeing the project come together.
