Hi there Here is my '34 Ford which I build in '06. The car is mostly made up of '30s & '40s ford cars parts. I'm always adding stuff to it as time goes on,that way the car gets more of a 'Soul' I think,& more personality. It has a 318 Dodge motor with 5-speed manual gearbox, custom made chassis & body with custom made interior(I did it myself) The car really goes, give it that it only weights under 1 ton. Please let me know what you think of it,post some comments etc. or mail me at jannievanrhyn@yahoo.com or go check it out in the upcoming issue(Sep.2008) of SAhotrods. It's gonna be a feature car in our local magazine here in South Africa. Be seeing you.Jannie
Many will rag on the IFS but then you have to wonder how easy it is to get stuff like this in South Africa?
Yes,you're right. All the old parts we have in SA are used by guys restoring old cars.We restore old cars aswell,so over a period of about 10yrs I collected all the stuff. I am planning to replace the IFS with a straight axle in the future,I just used the IFS,because I got it for $25 for the whole IFS(brakes included) In Dec. I'll once again build a Hotrod for myself.a '39 Ford pick-up which I got for free.Lot of stuff missing on it,but I've collected most of the parts again. It'll be build using mostly '39 Ford parts, including the Flathead motor. Will post pics when I'm working on it.be on the lookout for that.
Tradisional Hotrodding is a new thing in S.A. & the restorer guys have all collected the old parts OR our old scrapyards are being sold to bigger companies,& then they crush everything. So getting old parts is difficult & if you want something, you either know someone with contacts to parts or you have to keep that what you can find.Because most restorers here(S.A.) HATE hotrodders. There's only a couple of guys here with really 'deep' pockets,& most of them have there cars restored or made into showrods or streetrods.very little REAL hotrods here. Thanx for popping in. Jannie
good for you Guys!! I like it with what you have to work with there I wouldn't even taken up the hobby. You guys deserve a round of applause !
Thanx Pete It did take me 10yrs to collect all the parts & then only 2months of very late nights to build it.
oh yes,it used to be a 4-door sedan, before I cut it apart & build the body with (3mm) sheet metal from the firewall backwards.Tried to come up with a "Lakes Look". I think it's close to that,& you folks?
thanx Chad!yes, the steering....the law in S.A. gives us alot of crap about any lefthand drive cars,we're not even allowed to import a LH-drive for yourself. So,no cool new muscle cars either,or nice US pick-ups.Sucks hey?!
SAhotrods magazine in which this car will feature in the Sep. issue will be out soon. Go check it out at www.sahotrods.com
My '34 as featured in this month's(Sep. 2008) local South African magazine SAhotrods!go check it out....cheers.... Jannie
So I desided to change a couple of things on the '34...never actually liked the rollbar(to modern)& it was a bit cramped inside... ........change is good...right?! Keep watching this space.....cheers....Jannie
Sweet- It's got to be hard to do what you have done. Thanks for the spirit. Sometimes we don't realize how luck we are in other cultures to have access to parts and car shows. To be alone is alot harder, but your not alone here!
Thanx man.it ain't that hard to build cars here, just very very very expensive...our currentcy is...well...crap!Carshows comes around only a few times a year. I'd love to build cars for a living in the USA.It took me 10yrs just to collect enough parts & the parts I wanted to build my '34.& I'm still changing stuff..as you can see...I would love to put some WWW tires on it someday, but I'd have to import it & that's very expensive if you're building on a budget.
Hats off to you, you made it out of what you had in a country that that's probably inhospitable to hot rods and customs. I'd like to know how you got it titled and registered. Congrats.
It got registerd as a "Special" licence. The same they use for the off-road buggies that they do racing here with.
