Projects My 36 ford project. Or how to ruin a perfectly good car

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by the man, Mar 30, 2014.

  1. Picked up this nice 36 sedan a few months ago. It's in real good condition. Planing on doing a nice cruiser. View attachment 2168964 . The day it was delivered to Texas. For being from Minnesota it has almost no rust. Someone converted it to a slant back. View attachment 2168965 View attachment 2168966

You have balls for going Phaeton with one of my favorite years and body styles! :)

  9. So the first step was to create a perimeter for the doors and dash with 1 in tubing. Since I don't have a real Phaeton or roadster to go by I had to wing it with pictures. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1396296556.049599.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1396296567.021445.jpg
    Then set the door gaps

I liked this one but realized I cannot use my cowl vent which I really need. It Gets hot in Texas ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1396297274.695839.jpg . Great job Mate!! LOL very nice rod, very quality work, makes me enviouse(?) of your skills. I listen to my grandkids also, they open up a whole new world of ideas!!:)

  17. Next came the door jams and door latches. Stock one would no longer work ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1396320752.258048.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1396320767.130539.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1396320779.845519.jpg
    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1396320809.572319.jpg
I think at some pointing will move the top hinge down and rework the jam. I'm not super happy with it

  18. Next I needed a windshield. I hade an old one one the wall from a previous project. It will work for now. For the stantions I bought some 1 in aluminum. (Luckily I was able to find some pre war traditional aluminum none of that fancy new stuff). Made a pattern and cut it out on my bandsaw. Then I fit it to the cowl. And finished machining it. Still need to make a new frame and polish them. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1396321339.368074.jpg

  21. Well, since I came this far no sense in stopping. So off the back came. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1396365800.367626.jpg
I bought the EMS tail Pan. had to widen it an inch and a half to fit the sedan body. I don't think anybody will notice the difference ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1396365905.748321.jpg
Went to my buddies house and made some patterns off of his 35 five window and made a skeletal frame out of 1 inch by half-inch square tubing and some half by half for a buck ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1396365996.726624.jpg
And that's where I'm currently in this project. Still need to do a lot more fit up of the frame but I think It will work out just fine

And here your daughter thought there was going to be a back seat for her and her crew to ride in.

That is some impressive work you are doing on that.

  24. Actually her exact words were she doesn't want to have a backseat because she doesn't want her older sister to roll with us. love that kid. She really liked our last roadster we had and cried for almost a week after I sold it. So I figure she is the future hot rodder.

Cool project and great skills. I'm looking forward to seeing more! What brand is that radiator and how does it fit? I'm working on a pile of '35 Slantback...

  26. This is some impressive work going on there . Good job !

  27. I bought the radiator off eBay sometime ago it said it was specifically for a 36 Ford. Fits okay but you have to weld on the hood mount. But it was 100 bucks so kind of hard to pass up

I was wondering if it was one of those eBay radiators. They make them for '35 too and I can't find anyone with a build thread using one. With Walkers being $700+ the eBay ones are sure tempting. Thanks for the info.

Shoot for the moon! So far you're ahead of the curve. I will definitely check back in. Nothing I love to see more than a man juggling three chain saws!
