Well some how I keep getting luck and find these very cool and hard to get buicks . So a quick rewind I had my green 47 Buick super needed nothing but maybe a better paint job ,but I had to sell it to keep my house after my car accident,I regreated selling it everyday but life happened and I didn't have a choice.
So Buick two(47 super) was a huge project witch I was told it had no rust well I f-ed up and should of looked a little harder ,but I wanted the car so bad I was junk drunk ! I restored the entire frame ,suspension, brakes ,eng, trans, everything. Then switched and started on the body ,I then found tons of fibergl*** sheets covering extremely bad rust the guy went to so much trouble to hide the rust so no one would ever see it.I started trying to fix it but the car was just to far gone so I took everything of value off of the body and put it out of its misery. Then parted out the remains to other hambers. So that's Buick two that slipped away from me.
Now I'm thinking it will never happen I'll never be able to find or get another one so a few weeks ago I had a knock at the door the guy next door wanted to introduce his brother in law to me ,he figured we should meet because he owns model t haven and I am big into cars so we hit it off and out of the blue he said he had a few old Buick s a 47 Buick came up it was exactly what I wanted so I bought it off of him on the spot . And now it should be here in a week or so ,I'm quite excited as he was very honest with what was wrong with it so I'm confident I'm getting a nice car .here's some pictures of the new Buick .
    Wish me luck

I'm thinking about a ls1 setup for this car anyone done that to one of these . How much of a pain is the rear swap going to be to support the ls1 and trans swap

Great car! My grandfather who lived in Loudonville, Ohio was still driving his in the early sixty's. He worked for the Flxible bus company and now would be 124 years old. Wow! How time flies.

Since the orig drivetrain setup is torque tube, you need to make sure you have something that will take the torque reaction. Do those have leaf spring rear or other? Usually leafs will work without additional bracket and arm, if you keep it mild and no huge lowering blocks that increase the leverage on the springs. If other, then you are going to need some custom fab work.

How hard is it going to be to find the rear window gl***?

Hey guys thanks for the reply s . I have since decided to restore her 100% org no ls setup . To answer a few questions the car has coil springs in all 4 corners. The rear gl*** is extremely hard to get lucky for me I have one in stock along with about $5000 worth of brand new suspension and steering parts from my second super I restored the entire frame /driveline first then pulled the body in to start rust repair that's when I found that the old owner instead of fixing problems just hide them (very well by the way) and the more I got into it the more I realized it was toast! So sadly I s****ed the body and took anything of value off to sell and make some money back on the abortion of a Buick i had . Another member here bought most everything from me drive line wise but didn't need the suspension and steering stuff so it all got set aside to be sold and I never got around to it . I actually was going to Chuck the back gl*** a few months ago but something said no so it stayed and now it's almost like fate because this car needs every part I have and not much beyond that so hopefully it stays this way and I have most everything I'll just rebuild the 248 l8 and the 3 speed that's easy the rear is a bit harder as non of the seals are reproduced (correctly) I had to find org leather seals last time .
I even have a org set of knee auction shocks fully rebuilt and ready to roll sitting on the shelf so as soon as it gets here I'll get some updated pictures I'm very excited as I've been chasing this dream for awhile now and hopefully we can close this book with this Buick super I can't wait

What ever you do make sure the guy has good references and insurance. My buddy waited on his car for two months while the shipper got his stuff together. I was lucky and found a guy with one empty spot already on the road.

Yeah these truck drivers are starting to get a bit shady,I called my broker and fired the guy who took the order then had him transfer me to the guy who usually helps me and he told me the guy quoted me to low and no one would pick the car up at that number so he raised the price past what I'm paying just to make it right so hopefully we get a driver now

Well the new Buick made it safe and sound to my house a few hours ago it's not bad at all its better in places but also worse in others but overall better then I was anticipating. But it is missing a few much needed parts so now I must start looking and see what I can find

Those are really stylish cars IMHO. I'd love to have one someday. At one time I had a 48 Pontiac torpedo, my neighbor [the hippy] had a black 48 Buick like yours [gorgeous car!] and my buddy, Billy had a 40 LaSalle...use to have some great BS sessions bragging on our cars.........the Buick was the nicest, hands down.

Straight 8 and 3 pedals what else could you ask for. I've had two '50's and a '51. I like old Buicks. Congrats. Be sure and pull the Oil pan down and clean it out if its been sitting for years. My first '50 Buick had sat for 30 years and this is the oil pan pic.

Yeah I got into the motor a little today found a bent push rod so I'm guessing it's frozen up a little so not to cause more issues I'll just pull it and rebuild it who knows what has been done to it in the past .
Overall I'm happy with the car it does have a little more rust then I was told about but for the most part easily fixed. I decided to buy my first rotisserie for the Buick to get done correctly so I think I'm going to get that tomorrow so wish me luck I'll get more pictures soon

My lifters were stuck also. I took them out and rebuilt the ones that I could and found some FS on ebay.

Yeah no big problems rearing there ugly heads yet I found a few small spots under the rear fender area but nothing near as bad as my last one I had this car looks to be about 85-90% rust free those are numbers I can live with especially when most of the damage is on body panels that unbolt and I have rust free ones off my last car sitting in the rafters
