Had to rebuild the diff, the carrier failed. Just got a yukon locker carrier, cleaned the diff today, there was metal everywhere! Needed to get a spanner to finish the job, it is on order.
Well, it has been some time so here is an update. I have the engine/trans mounted and things look good there. My friend helped me and we built the subframe on top of the main frame then built the new floor, then I made a pattern of the firewall, toe plate and matched it up to the new flat floor. We went to my friend's boat building business and bent it to match the pattern, perfect match. I now have one solid piece from the firewall down to the floor then welded to the floor.By the way the floor is now totally flat. Temporarily installed new seats and drilled holes for mounting, did some testing and will raise them 2" higher, much better view. Installed the steering column from the cutaway van, just put a strap through the dash to hold it in place. Looked promising so I cut a 6x6 inch hole in the toe plate so I could install gain access. Everything looked good so I built brackets to support the Column then connected the universal joints to the steering box. It works with no mods except to shorted the slide joint between the universals. I'm thrilled! It has fly by wire throttle and I made a new bracket and have the throttle installed. All new brakes all around the diff has a new carrier and bearings.
My build has taken a 90 degree turn. I just found a 41 GMC Coe cab that is in vastly better shape than the Chevy so I am switching over to Gmc. Does anyone happen to have a hood emblem for a 41-46 Gmc Coe, or a good picture of one.
Things are moving forward again after the cab switch. New floor and firewall installed. Steering worked out fine, got a wildwood brake pedal with the small master to power the slave that drives the remote mounted hydro boost brakes, all mounted on the upper firewall. Just finished welding patch panels in both doors. By the way I have removed about 14 pounds of body filler, mostly from the fenders and the back of the cab below the belt line. Good thing is the metal under the filler is sound and is now mostly straightened.
what did you end up doing for the steering? If you send me pics, maybe I can post them. Rick.suteriii@gmail.com.
