So.... I have been building this car in my head constantly, focusing on the drivetrain and ch***is. I am trying my *** off to keep it era correct, and lately the brake system has been a hard one to figure out. I really wanted to keep the brake set up under the floor, but I also wanted to have a dual MC for the brakes that is pre 64. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/era-correct-firewall-mount-brake-clutch-master-cylinder.954132/page-2#post-10734273 A chevy truck brake/clutch mc converted to brake duty was an option, but I didn't want to hang it on the firewall. There's just something about watching those pedals go through the floor when operated... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/60-chevy-truck-brake-clutch-mc-as-2-pot-brake-mc.954160/#post-10732635 I can't stand most of the available under floor mounts, especially the one where you mount a dual pot mc behind the stock gutted one. (barf) So I sat in my garage last night staring at the stock MC thinking, "if I could just keep that look and somehow get a tandem MC" I broke the laptop out and after looking at a ton of MC's, the lightweight mopar one kept gnawing at me... So today I sat down and hopped on solidworks to try to make an under floor MC mount, using the stock pedal locations, and mounting holes, while retaining a similar look. The mounting bracket will be welded and have all welds smoothed and radiused, made from mild steel. The reservoir is made from aluminum, and all welded seams will be radiused. Both parts will be powercoated with a powder we have at work that gives a cast appearance. It is overall the same size as the stocker, with the addition of a longer reservoir. So what do you guys think? Opinions welcome.
I like it. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work. It's similar (but much nicer looking) to the bracket I made to run a Chevy truck dual mc from the thread here on the hamb
Thank you. I'm debating not running the home made reservoir and just using the plastic reservoir that comes with it, even though it will look out of place
How much bigger is the stock Mopar reservoir? The one that you drew up is fairly compact so depending on what transmission and exhaust system you're running it may help keep things a little cleaner
I like it. This addiction needs more people like you who want to create, instead of following the crowd.
Cadillac came out with the first dual master in '62, to the best of my knowledge., and it remained basically the same to '66. Soooooo, if you REALLY want to keep it PRE-'64, gutting (if necessary) your stock MC and adding the Caddy dual would accomplish your goal, and the smartest move. Modern Mopar masters and billit or plastic reservoirs are "barf" if you are serious about keeping it pre-'64.
Hahaha you just killed me plans but that's OK! I had no clue that the cadi's had a dual mc. Thank you very much.
