Like always for me.... big plans... bought this biscayne...big plans to make it a muscle car/ street machine, friday night strip car.... probley not fit in any category, but fit in my garage..and done how I want...
though many told me..." leave it alone,... put a windshield in it and drive it, great patina" fuc a bunch of patina, patina is just a nice way of say'n the POS needs paint.. so... I started working on it...as you can see...the patina was borderline destroying this car...such a nice straight pretty rust free car needs to be saved..
So, with out any thought process, the what was I thinking, not even abit... I jumpped in head over heels..... the man this is gonna be cool filled the air....the wtf... you're 72, and they wanna cut your arms off and put new shoulders..that and you are gonna make a big mess of the yard...not even a hint was thought ...were off and running... light to dark with no end in sight..
right about the time this pic ^^was taken.. my vision of Wicked appeared ,.. I' ve never really liked impallas and before american graffity ... no one else did either...Impala's were a plan that didn't work...pontiac was killing chevy sells with their Bonneville.... so chevy, when in Rome do as the romans do... tried to make the Impala look like a Bonniville... so they took what was a nice clean body style. and turned it in to MR potato head...I don't know if it was one guy... or all off them.. but they started adding stick on's... pitch forks, fake hood scoop's on the roof,.. fish gills, shark gills.. multible antennas, continintal kits, dual mirrors. speakers in the rear seat..chrome headliner bows..and then there's the road side guardrail bolted on the side.. as they had a vison that it would be great for the claimer division at the race track..
so on with WICKED... AND THE NO THOUGHT PROCESS.. first things first. fuc with it till I can't drive it...and get the ralleys off...so.. raised white letters and all headed to the OT zone...and while there.... might as well strip the paint and patina... so the farther down the rabbit hole I went... the worse it got...pain in my shoulders increased ever night to complete un bearable and sleeping in a chair... here's comes reality..I start thinking..I will never finish this in my life years left...but I need to preserve it some how..and it can just pass on..being old... The , I used to be able... comes around a lot.... I needed to get some paint on it so it could just sit....so I got a roller and some simi gloss exterior paint.. and put a coat on...
so she just sat in the corner..I'm not good with not finishing stuff..kinda like a sliver in my hand..
so, got the surgery done....went well... they did some stem cell?? and didn't cut my arm off... so sitting on the back porch while healing, drinking coffee, reminded every day.... I need to finish this car....it's just setting and rotting... my son comes over, says the same thing every one that comes over,,, watcha gonna do with that 58???... so time to make a move... I say... I wanna shave everything..and weld up all the holes... he say lets do it!!!
So, got the welder out and a box of nails... I use the roofing nails to weld the holes of to have a more finished look on the inside and it uses less heat. nice filler... those are big panels and last thing you wanna do is warp them...
so we get that done...every hole welded... then went back and ground them smooth... and she sat...at the cars and coffee in vegas... Met a guy Darwin Homes....maybe some here know him... he's from the modesto area... ties to drag racing.. custom car builder, worked with windfield and such... wants to come over and look at my cars.... were sitting on the porch, he says whatcha doing with that 58...?? I say ...I gotta strip it and finish the metal work, then paint it satin black....... he says I'll help you get it done.....hell yeah...so I did a chemical power wash...
where it's at now, metal work done to 80 grit straight, and primed for paint prep... lot gonning on everywhere... progress on wicked....slow ...
so as of today It's on it's 3rd long board block.... gonna be straight...and no sign of it ever having trim...
the yellow tape spots are little places that need more attention...but like said ... it's coming along great ...
done.... flawless. and no bondo... all holes welded and metal finished... final blocked to 400 then one tack coat, and two wet coats of primer... this bitch is straight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks straight enough to wear high gloss black. There's something about it I can't quite put my finger on............... but you sure do have cool lights in the bat cave.
I'm not a satin paint fan, but it looks like you did it all right. Hope I can do as good if I ever get done with fixing highs and lows on mine.
you have to do them satin before you can do shiny... this car can go hi gloss black now..with me having so many cars to work on and keep running... the 55 bird is getting a new motor, the 58 bird needs to get running, some have to sit as level of importance.. then the fuel gauge started leaking on my 28 rpu. 59 pickup broke the dist. and the 34 needs a fuel pump..had to put a new front end on the 61 bird and brake booster.. and a master cyl in the 53 chevy.. the 51 pickup started flooding over, so needed a fuel pressure reg... and the 37 chevy roadster needs the top irons fit... or a carson top built...but I still need to learn that not all parts are bolt on.... but I wish now and then that at least one part would..
my other plan right now is to put 2 impala tail light on each side.. this car is far far from ready to put the paint coat... I still gotta do the jambs..
guess you don't know your 58's... but thats ok.... most don't... it's not now or ever was any of the models you post...
