Those trunk corners are a pain in the ass, but yours are looking good. I should hopefully make some progress on mine again this weekend. This time of year is busy as hell.
Thank you guys, Looks like my weekend will be totally booked and next weekend will be a christmas thing. Well,i hope i get something done at next week before the christmas. And i just bought a christmas present for myself: Lee Lense style bubble taillights, cant wait to get them test fitted.I hope i'll get them at this year..
This was an awful week.We had a nasty storm and because of that we had a 55 hr long power-failure,so no electrics... So living in a development country is just like this. Well, the storm thing went fine,my family and friends didnt get hurt,no fallen trees for houses, cars etc. And i got something done, not much but something: I didnt like the pattern of the original HF beadroller die,the bead just wasnt deep enought. So i modified them that way they'll form a deeper bead. I did few beads for the corner panel and welded it: I have some fitting/grinding/hammering to do for the drivers side patch, before i can weld it but after that the trunk floor is done. I'll try to finish that one soon and happy new year to everyone
just wondering, how do you plan to seal the joint between the floor and the quarter panel? floors looking great.
Thanks Thanks! I havent think about that yet,but i am going to use some filler, which works with POR-15.If i remember right, the POR-15 manufacturer had somekind of filler,i need to check it out. Really long time ago, some previous owner tack welded the quarter to the floor, you see that spot on the pic. There is a hole on the quarter, tackweld was right below that.Otherwise the quarter isnt bad from the back. So,i have to replace lower quarter panels too for both sides.I guess the passengers side will be piece of cake, but the drivers side will be more challenging. So there's a lot to do before the filler thing..
Been gone for awhile, am catching up. Great stuff, Finn . . . C-notches, gas tank, trunk beads and sheet metal fab, very nice . . . Trunk latch is fantastic, you Scandanavians never cease to amaze . . . Love the Riversidehobo Christmas greeting, y'all are whacked . . . FTW mode, love that . . . Great job with your first show, well done. FYI - my '51 Chevy had factory rubber seals on edge of trunk floor at 1/4 panel intersection. Not that you need them, but I guess there is movement? I figured on putting in seals 'cause what do I know?
Thank you sir! There was left an original rubber seal on the passengers side, but under that there was that old Henry's tar crap. I think the tar has sealed the quarter panel pretty well,so there wasnt much movement originally. And under the corner pieces is bolted a triangular braces, that is attached to the floor corners and the bottom of the quarter panel. That makes the floor/quarter setup stiffer too. Passengers side brace was worth to save(i think),but drivers side was a twisted POS,i guess i'll fab new ones at some point. And yeah,i guess that the members of our so called club are sort of whacked or at least have a really strange kind of humour anyway. We are organizing another show at the summer,i think we have to start gathering some show pieces for the show soon.
An another update: The drivers side needed too some attention, there was some pitting and few pinholes,so i decided to fab a patch for there too.I found that there was lead, which messed up my tackweldings from the left side. But that doesnt matter,i am going to replace the lower quarters and i have to open those tackwelds anyway.I just tackwelded it to avoid warping and wanted to keep the patch in correct position: Then i finished the drivers side rear corner patch: And here is finished trunk floor,i laid some temporary primer again: Well, its almost finished,my plan is to fab the notch section next.
Thank you all for your words! Yeah,we have a long winter ahead,i hope it wont get any colder.Because that means no garage time when its near -20 celcius... I am waiting for my trip to Florida at march. So i guess there is some light at the end of the tunnel
Finally i got them, the Lee Lense-style bubble lenses for taillights. The original bezels needs gasket kit and some attention, but i made a mockup anyway. Here is before pic: And the after pic:
As others have stated, the cargo area turned out nice !! What are the advantages to the Lee Lenses ?? Are they LED type ??
Thanks! Those Lee Lenses fit in OEM bezels,i think the advantage is in the looks.. But they are plastic, not glass like the original lenses.I read from another thread that someone ruined those lenses by pressing the brake too long, the brake light causes extra heat and the lenses melted because of the extra heat.My plan is to use bulbs with leds,i guess that will eliminate the heat problems.I use to have a led bulb in my Harleys tail light, because the normal glass bulbs didnt like the vibration.
Thanks for the info !! I am curious how you like them. Wondering what is available ( if any ) for the 51 model.
I like them,no regrets of buying those lenses They have lenses for 51's too for sale.My shoebox is 51',but the taillights are 49/50'.I was just wondering how the 51' lenses could look like,if you put them as horizontal and french them. The 51' taillights are wider than 49/50',so that modification could be pretty cool one.
Thanks dude! I still have some fabwork to do.Now i need to hire a beadroller operatoring slave, its sometimes like this when you are working alone with your project. After finishing the floors and replacing the quarterpanels,i've done most of the bodywork.Looks like there is a light of the end of the tunnel after all
I've come to realise that once you perceive that there's light at the end of the tunnel, other "little" jobs appear out of nowhere. Keep up the awesome work. And we need even more pics!
Thank you guys! Yes,i am aware that there will be a lot of smaller jobs, but i hope they wont take so much time than these bigger phases. Well, last month was really cold in here,so i didnt do anything for this project..Except buying some better tin parts from states. Its warmer now and i started to work again with this project. So,i guess there will be an update soon, hopefully before my Florida's trip.
