So I don't have much of an update for the car. I got a new mountain bike that has stollen my attention from the car for the last few weeks. I don't know if there are any other mountain bikers on this forum, but damn this is a fun bike! But, this is what I have done to the car recently. I'm still no sure how I feel about it now that it's done. I just wanted to see what the paint would look like if I color sanded and polished it, and I just kept going and kept going and now the whole damn rear fender and drivers side door is done! So I guess I have to finish the rest of the car now.
Damn dude! I like the before & the after lol…sorry, I know my opinion offers no help. But I don't think your taking anything away (except oxidation of course haha) from that sweet ride by polishing her up. Looks pretty sweet… Oh the mountain bike looks sweet too, congrats. Now get back to work David
Thanks David. Ya I gotta get back to it this weekend for sure. Too much to do still. The wife loves crushing it with me though. She thinks it looks awesome as is. If she wouldn't get near it till I had it finished, that would probably be better motivation for me to finish it. Haha.
Somehow I've been missing some great build threads. Now I want another 52-54 Ford. I miss my 54 customline. It was never as cool as yours though. Nice work on a great body style. I sort of liked the 54 dash with the plexiglas speedo opening. Remember lots of tunes coming from that stock radio while parked on lovers lane. Don't believe I'd have enough nerve to grind on new white walls. Keep cruisin and having fun with your car.
Yeah, that's another addiction.I raced BMX in the 70s and was around at the beginning of the mountain bike era.I own several, plus a fixie,a road bike, and I'm thinking about gravel ,too.BTW,the car looks great.
That's awesome flamingokid. BMX was so rad back in the day! I tried racing a few times in the early 90's but didn't have enough coordination. I love watching some of those original bmx movies though. Must have been a fun time. And thanks.
It was like being front and center in something that was going to be huge and even as a young teenager, you knew it.I never liked stock bikes, although some companies make great bikes out of the box now.I was involved with high end car audio in the 80s and 90s,when it was taking off.I guess stock things never were my forte.
Subscribed.....I'm partial to the 53 Victoria. Couldn't get away with any Mod's though.....been in the DW's Family since new. Keep up the good work!!! Bob
Wow!!! That is amazing that it has stayed in the family. I wouldn't change that one either! Especially to have that picture of a family member with it in 1953!
Thank's guy's.... My Wife's Maternal Grandmother..... October 1976 her last drive.....the day we bought it. The selling Dealer in Newport NY.... Some History.... 50yr old OEM Dubble Bubble, installed by my DW & her Sister. Bob
My '52 was sold from Carthage, NY and just turned 35,000 miles. I have the original bill of sale and all the rest of the paper work given at the time of purchase.
Checkout the chrome strip & grill on my '52, circa 1959, at: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...-52-ford-mainline.971092/page-4#post-11042256
The history behind your cars is awesome. It's amazing that some of these cars can still have such low milage. Great cars and so cool seeing them unrestored in such great condition.
The old '52 went by the wayside in 1962; and, I just bought the '53 Vicky about a month ago - no fool like an old fool.....trying to go back in time!
Haha arnt we all trying to go back in time!?! I know one day I'll need to own another 62 Cadillac like the one I did right out of high school. Actually I wish I had that car still, but the 53 pretty awesome for now.
I havnt made much progress lately. Mainly because I haven't had time. Though today I did take some time to start working on getting the solenoids hooked up to the door. At least that was the plan. It took me all day to figure out how to take the window regulator, glass and windwing out, clean and modify the latch. I just welded a small steel rod to the arm and drilled a hole in it for the cable. I just used some oven cleaner and a wire brush to strip it and some Gibbs to seal and protect it. Now I have to source some window felts to replace the channels with and I'll be rattle free.
How exactly does the felt get replaced? It looks like the edges are crimped on by those chrome strips.
I honestly have never owned that year of Ford, but my guess would be to leave the chrome alone, since this is a driving resto-kustom.I would pull the felt out, clean the track, and put some good epoxy back in there.Just my .02 worth
Today I was finally able to start work on the windwings. I got some industrial strength Velcro for the channels that I think is going to work really good. I got my gaskets for the wind wings from macs. I don't think they are supposed to be like this, and I'm not sure if I should leave it, or return them and order from another company? What do you guys think? There is a large gap at the bottom near the pivot. Is there anything I can use to fill the gap? I wonder if I could build up rtv sealant?
I didn't look through every post so maybe it's been said. The back window is not the only 52 part. The tail lights and rear fender trim are also 52. Is the vent window trim pot metal or stainless? If stainless that's another 52 part. I've had all multiples of all three years 52,53,54 and don't recall a difference between the 52 and 53 dash.
