picked up my 54 buick last april for the small sum of 900 bucks. floor pans were roached and the motor was shot. a friend and his dad built me a 350 and we slapped a th350 behind it and dropped it in. fabricated some motor mounts and ****** mount and replaced floor pans with some replacement panels and some sheet metal. i cleaned up the firewall and filled in all the holes. 69 chevy truck rear suspension with early 90's caprice rearend. got airbags in the rear and deciding what to do to the front suspension. cut 1 and a half coils off the front springs. still sits a little to high but will focus on that once its drivable. it lost a lot of weight when we swapped the drivetrain out. replaced the front bushings, brakes, and wheel bearings. a lot done and quite a bit to go but i feel like i am finally on the backstretch ready to start cruising. just thought i would share it with yall. love the board and have learned a lot from all yall. got my lokar shifter linkage to install so i can use the column shift. here is a few pics. my interior is at the upholstery shop. that is taking forever. i learned something from him. never trade out work for parts. he has had my seats for four months. i feel like if i would have just paid cash it would already be back. it was his idea. oh well flame away. feel free to point out anything that could be improved. i started this project to show the little 8 year old in the drivers seat that with a lot of hard work you can really make something cool from a pile of old rust. he gets out there and helps and we are making memories. not trying for traditional just making our own.
That's what it's all about! Some progress pics would be nice. Good Job creating a new hot rodder! ...edit,, I guess I should type faster!
more pics. please take it easy on my welds. i used this project as an excuse to buy a plasma cutter and a welder. also used this project to learn to use said plasma cutter and welder. i have a friend guiding me and checking my welds.
like to see your set up in the back how you atach the trailling arms i have a 54 buick and my body gave the rear trailling arms off of a 65 chevy truck thx.
I will get some pics of it this week. I fabricated a crossmember similar to the one another member had already designed. Have to mount my panhard bar and i should be close to being done with the rear end. Right now I am focusing on getting it on the road and safe to drive for the summer. I am kinda wishing I would have just 4 linked it and been done with it. We will see. Always room for upgrade.
