Something to think about, cutting your bumper will leave flat inner ends, while a '55 Pontiac bumper has the inner ends curved & rounded. 'Course you always have the option of adding the Pontiac pieces later if you want. Either way, looking forward to the outcome. Keep us posted.

I think this build thread is as impressive as any I've seen. Way more enjoyable than Overhaulin'. Great build, great post. I check it out on a regular basis and I want to say you've done a great job. Thank You....

I intend on cutting it that way. Not all ugly or anything. You shall see... and thanks again.

If you use 3/16 rod to round over the edges of the nose, I think it won't alter the boxy 90 degree shape of the nose very much, and you are still going to have the sharp inside radius where the nose connects to the trunk.

You might try this instead: take a short length of 1/2" EMT tubing and weld two pieces of sheet metal to it at about 90 degrees and see how it rounds over the edge. Then try it with 3/4" EMT. I think you'll prefer the bigger radius, and benders for this tubing are like $5 yard sale price. If it works for you, then try slitting a piece of tubing lengthwise into quarters to get the inside radius and weld that on.

changed my mind on rounding it all off. I want to cut it down in size first. Split the rear bumper and see what I have left. The nmaybe, if i am still not diggin it, I might do that. We shall see.

    Choptvan,
I'm ready- shoot me a couple of side or 3/4 shots of your car for me to photoshop. Try to get the entire car in the frame (you'd be amazed how many people don't). If you have a shot with the hood on it would help you see what the final product will look like.

I'll try to get it done tomorrow- hopped up on a lot of cold medicine, so it may not be perfect :)

I will have to do it tomorrow. Either real early or just after the sun starts to drop. Damn white car causes quite a glare otherwise. I will mock the hood up if I can. Thanks for the help.

So, I zoned out for a little. What are you gonna do for looks? Like the paint will be green with some kind of bright colored flaked top. Also there will be a plit rear bumper that may be 10k gold plated.

But what about things like hub caps? The ones you got on it already? Also pinstriping? Anything else? Just food for thought.:D

Striping will be done by eric. Will let him decide what and how much etc. As for hubcaps I have a cool *** set of 52-4ish merc caps that are bad as hell. I have the garnish mouldings painted and am working on the headliner soon. I hope. Things will progress soon. Again, I hope....

Got the bumper split. Going to run it for a bit before I decide if I like it. Looks good. Just not sure if it is what I am trying to achieve. I will post pix later today.

It started to rain. So here are those pix. Nose looks better for sure. I forgot a pic of the split bumper though. IT has the risers (?) on it as well.

Is there a way you can connect the bumper together up over the top of the license plate? I think not having the guards gives it a cleaner look.

wait till you see it with them though. I think it adds to it. There is a way. I am exploring option. I have a 54 chevy rear bumper layin around with an overrider on it. Might throw that on to see what I think of it. I am also going to round the corners on the splits. See ehow that looks. I have 2 of theses rear bumpers so it can't hurt to try.

Looks better with them brought in a bit like that. Will the overider connect them?

I have hammered the edges round but am wondering what would look better. Leaving it as is? Or rounding the newly cut edges. Anybody have a better pic of what the pontiac bumpers look like from head on?

If you google "1955 Pontiac pictures" there are a few rear end shots on there with different angles.
I found a nice rear end to post but my wife almost caught me.
