My 54 has been converted to 12v and I need to get the heater fan off straight 12v. Reason is it blows good but will shut off at higher speed. I have a reducer the ceramic kind where do I put it. There are 2 places I see from Ignition to the fan switch or between switch and fan.

Go to a good auto parts store with the current fan motor and ask them to dig around, that is what I did on two old six volt heaters I had, now they have 12V motors.

I'd put it between the switch and the fan -you want to reduce the voltage that goes in to the motor.

VTX1800's suggestion is good...there's a million fans of all sizes out there...find a 12 volt...

Is there more than one fan speed if so it needs to be before the switch otherwise ether will work.

sunbeam yes two speeds.....so i stuck it in between the ignition and the switch and the reducer gets red hot any idea why? to the point it is making the wires and wire insulation sticky and warm.

To much load for the reducer check the voltage after the reducer I'll bet it's less that 6v. Actualy the low speed side uses a resistor to slow the motor down it might be about the same the high speed on 6v.
