Everything has a country-of-manufacture code in a corner somewhere. I mean, I had to look up where mine came from, somewhere in eastern Europe.

Jeff.......you've got the hard part done......getting the seal and trim on the glass. After Jay telling me it was a walk in the park, I stopped looking for help from a glass guy. My wife and I had it installed in 20 minutes. I can send you my wife, ah wait, no.

BTW, many headliners cannot be steamed, depends on the fabric. Mine looks and feels like brushed cotton, but is actually a synthetic, so steaming was not an option.

Well,... drawing the build conclusion on the Dirty Bird.
Glass went in flawlessly with the help of 3 pals and a 4 in the cheering section..... rear glass first(15 minutes). Front Glass next, in and done in about 20.
The side quarter glass was a bit more tricky.. but after 30 minutes per side...all good... no rubber puckering and a nice tight seal.
I still have a list of small things to achieve... but that can be done as I go.

So yesterday I fired the Bird up and took it on its maiden voyage..... first..about 5 times around our town..... all good, brakes, gears and drive.I then went out and wheeled to the next town..... rowed they the gears with ease....
I do have a slight timing issue,. but no deal breaker. The car stopped, accelerates and handles very very well. The Big Block is my wheel house.. tons of torque,.. which I really like.I am gonna swap out the radials for the set of Bias plus for about town driving...
Of course, I need to finish the interior(over the next season) some small kinks with a new build.. but over all extremely happy. Our cars are never really done.

I know this thread is very long.... and I want to thank each and everyone of you that followed along, with help, advice and good thoughts.

I certainly learned a lot on this adventure.

    This build is now complete.

  5. Well done Jeff! You went through this project like any Pro shop would have done. Outstanding! I can only hope my 500 turns out as nice. Should you ever decide to be for hire or just want to do another 57 Ford drop me a PM. I know what it takes to build at this level and not often I actually see it done. My hat's off to ya my friend, Well Done! Congratulations.

One of the best, most comprehensive, entertaining, educational threads that I have ever read. Outstanding Jeff.

Surprised (and a little jealous) that the glass went in so easily, but I'm glad it did. Looks good!

An absolutely beautiful car! I have enjoyed watching your progress on this build from the beginning. You can be very proud of what you have accomplished.

  13. Artists create all of the time so their world should have lots of feelings of accomplishments. Finishing a project is the same but different. I'm guessing that at least for time being, Mr. Norwell intends to own and enjoy the fruits of labor. Congrats to you and all who helped. :)

SO happy for you bud. The car looks amazing, and definitely has that attitude that cars either have, or just don't. You can't explain it, you know it when you see it, and this is definitely it. Be proud for seeing a long journey through to the end. So few do. ENJOY it.

kick ass brother. Really happy for you and gives me great furthering inspiration for the 56. There's just something about a black car eh. Absolute total pain in the ass to keep clean at least out west here where it's so damn dusty but they just look amazing. Drive the shit out of it! :D

Great build Thread Jeff. Much information I can use on my Custom upgrades. Saturday I purchased this facsimile at a local event. 7C12943B-1F6B-4952-8517-DDC3AED96AEF.jpeg

    Again. thanks to All.
I am truly amazed That it has gotten to where I started from..a very very rough car.. its not perfect.. but perfect to me.
I can honestly say, I am enjoying this car far more than any other car I have owned.
Had some small thing issues.(all worked out now) and a few electrical stupid things.. but its running like a scalded cat.
I plan to slip her into some Bias footwear... Time is always an issue.... but its come a long way since the day I brought her home.

    AH-MAZING !!! I love the T-Bird hood scoop.....like icing on a really GR8 cake. Very nice indeed !!
    You done real good :)

  24. I actually sat in the storage room for about an hour yesterday just looking at what I have and trying to remember what I was going to do next and why in the H--L I stopped where it is. Retirement seems to demand more time to get anything done than progress took back when I was in y 40's.

Congratulations Jeff, your vision in reality is much like your art...spot on...and in many ways never done is a bonus because it means there'll be more...the bias plys will sure compliment the period look but your choice of modern rubber in it's blackness looks pretty good too...;)

As Anthony says I'd drive it...I still have some catching up to do...been very busy doing house...;)

    Have fun with it...
