You have to know that I'm going to like a thread like this.

I think you're truck is going to be tough.

My truck however, is a work truck and daily driver.
It is big and heavy and halls .. well, damn near anything.

  2. I like that dually. My buddy (30roadster) has one also that's pretty cool. Mine isn't quite considered a "worktruck" but I am building it to be a fully functional daily driver. It will be able to haul whatever I want including trailers :D

You're very welcome Holliwood. I would reccomend staying away from 305's. They have a really small bore diameter which makes for poor breathing and shrouding of the valves. I've been there. If you can find a 327 then you're golden. That combo just works so well in the 55-59 trucks. There is a fleetside longbed in a wrecking yard I frequent and until now I didn't think anything of it but now with you performing surgery I am thinking, hmmmm, ,maybe someone else could use it?

  9. You should snag that. If you can do a good job of shortening it, you'll have no problem getting rid of it.

Man, that's sick! I love that body. I used to have a '59 GMC stepside. Along the way, someone dropped a 292 6-banger in it. I drove the piss out of that truck until some butt nozzle in a 79 Camaro T-boned me and totaled the truck. I have a '62 C10 now that I'm hoping to get bagged before the Roundup. I'm sure I'll see you out there if you're done in time. Looks great. Keep it going.

Hmmm, now you've really got me thinking. No time to shorten it but perhaps it is worth saving for the right buyer in the future. Until this post I had no idea there were other folks looking to do the 58-59 w/ fleetside thingy. It is so interesting that although the 5-7's and 8-9's have the same cab, that front sheetmetal makes a huge impact on which bed looks best. Here are a couple pics of my trucks, one is a project and the other is a workhorse.

  12. That project is in great shape! You could probably bring $1000 just for the body alone if it's as good as it looks in the pic.

  13. Well, I finally got a chance to start cuttin' down my new bedsides. Here's what I did today so far.....

All nice trucks! The shortened bed looks good. I've always liked the 58/59 best. Another TX truck here, I got a 58 short/fleet in Fort Worth.

  22. Stock. The chassis fit under it very nicely with about 3'' to spare

  23. OH MY GOD! That truck is beautiful! You have just earned a full layout on my computer desktop :D Hope you don't mind. That is exactly the style look I'm going for.

I'm gonna paint it indigo blue metallic but with a satin pearl finish (kind of like the dark blue xmas tree balls they sell at Wal Mart). The seat will most likely be dark blue leather with white boat flake tuck n roll in the middle. I went with an 85 chevy truck seat. I was actually looking for the 88-98 seat, but I got a smokin deal on this one and it's in perfect shape. Man, I wish you were a little closer. I'd love to see that thing in person  Actually.....I will be in Ft. Walton Beach on Okaloosa Island June 6-13 if you wanna take a little road trip....

  27. Sweet. I've contemplated a Rocket 88 and a Buick nailhead for mine also, but I don't know a lot about them.

Cant wait to see ya at the Round Up. This is a dream thread for me.

  29. Well, Roundup is next weekend and I don't think I'm gonna have it there :( I just got rearended yesterday, so now my receiver hitch is inoperable. So now I'm shootin' for BilletProof in July. I do have a few updated pics though. I finally have all of my major parts for the build. I picked up some sweet finned Edelbrock valve covers that I'm gonna blast and paint today. I also got a full chrome 8in Corvette brake booster/master cylinder and a beefed up 700r4 yesterday with 7000 miles on it that I touched up a little. Here's what it looks like so far.

  30. Oh yeah, I'll post some finished pics of the valve covers tonight after I'm done :) It's gettin' so close, I can almost hear her running now!
