good as it gets--black with black wheels is terrific--the FI is a good addition--have a black 57 with FI and solids and black wheels--just finished this year--contrary to what folks say--it runs great and starts great--no problem

I'm glad to hear that your '57 starts and runs well without problems. I just bought my restored '59 fuel injection unit from a young man in Virginia who restores fuel injection units for a lot of folks from the NCR club. He says that they'll run fine when restored properly. I don't know much about mechanical fuel injection. I do know that there were a few full sized '59 Chevrolets that ran the Rochester fuel injection unit and I felt my El Camino deserved one as well. Now, my dilemma will be finding a '59 Chevrolet fuel injection air cleaner assembly.............:).....By the way, I really like your '40 Coupe.....Mike

HELP!!! I'm almost done with my El Camino but I just keep adding different things I've had on my El Camino "bucket list"
My VERY LAST item is a '59 factory Rochester fuel injection system. Passenger car units are the same as Corvettes. I bouht a beautifully restored fuel injection unit with matching fuel injection air cleaner. Unfortunately, the passenger car air cleaner assembly is different on the El Camino than it is on the Corvette.

I've purchased all of the correct air cleaner parts except for 1 piece. It fastens directly to the plenum and looks like a sideways parking meter. I've attached a photo. The authentic part is steel but I understand that at one time someone re-popped them in fiberglass.
I will settle for either one. Does anyone remember who re-popped them? I will pay a $200.00 finder's fee to anyone that turns me on to one that I can buy. Thanks for your time.

I also need a pair of these flag emblems anfd fuel injection nameplates..........I'll pay a finder's fee on these as well. I will take restorable ones if available. Please try to send photos with asking $$$$$$p[IMG]rice, not including finder's fee. Does anyone know of someone making re-pop parts?

Clean and simple, very nice. I am a big fan of El Caminos up to 72.

  7. Good lookin Elky!! Glad to see you were able to use the pic of the "Passenger" Fueler Embs. I sent a reply to your earlier FI one with this pic, never did see the reply tho. They were on a 59 at the GNRS, no fueler tho. I had a set on my 59 Elky that I had in Juneau Alaska in 64, had a 60 FI unit on a 62 327 I put together w a 4 speed. Am working qn another 59 Elky now as I really miss the others I've had. Will be a 335 HP FE348 w 4 Speed, black with black int. Have already put the 59 Imp dash trim and wheel in it. Still a long way to go, too many other projects for this 71 year old. GOOD LUCK on you search!! Dave

I have several pictures of the emblems. I appreciate the use of yours. Chevrolet produced very few '59 fuel injected passenger cars but the dealer network installed quite a few at the dealer level..P.S..I'm 65 years old..Mike

  9. You are more than welcome, us old timers have to stick together!!! LOL While in Juneau, there was a 59 Imp 4dr sedan, black w/white top, turboglide and Posi, that was bought new in Juneau that had been ordered with a Fueler in it. An old man owned it and drove it everyday. In 64 it was so rusty it was a shame but still going, tried to buy it several times for the Fuelie stuff, no chance. I moved to Anchorage in 66 and was back about 2 years later on business and tried to track it down, Friends said the owner had died and the car had been pushed/rolled over into the Gastenau Channel (salt water) as brick/brack to help control erosion, no one wanted it, too rusty and a 4dr. Yes, it was complete and could be partially seen at low tide, many cars in juneau met that fate. I was pissed.

  10. PS: 65? Thats why yours looks so good, We were there when they were new and know what they should look like!! Glad to see your example of knowledge passed on to those that were'nt there but wished they had been!! BTW, the only 2 59/60 Wonder Bar Radios I have ever seen were in one of my 59 Elkys in 64 and the other was in a 60 Elky here in Mesa about a year ago. Both were factory installs. I have owned over a dozen of the damn Elkys!!! LOL Still drive a 60 and working on my 59.

The radio in mine is a push buton but I just installed it from a sealed N.O.S. General Motors box. Funny, almost everyone that sees mine says the paint looks so flawless but wait until it shrinks........the paint is Deltron and is 28 years old. I think it would have shrunk by now :)

Speaking of being old and having been there, my '34 Ford Vicky that's in my profile was purchased by my Dad in 1959. I drove it to high school in 1962 at age 17 and still own and drive it now. I painted it black Sikkens in 1995 and it's still smooth as silk.

I may have to go with an N.O.S. '57 fuel injection air cleaner, hose and scoop as I have one of those sets. At least until I find the correct '59 air meter adapter (parking meter)
    Here's the '57 unit;

Thanks, I appreciate it. I like your '36. I've got an original '36 phaeton that's been in my family since the very early 60's. Many of my cars were purchased by my Dad and myself as solid, no rust, original cars and have been stored in my storage building since 1959-1964 until now. At 65 years old I'm slowing down some on getting to them.:) My last major rotissiere build was my white '65 Plymouth race hemi Belvedere 1 sedan, at least until I took on making changes to my El Camino to suit me.

Thanks, I'm a fan of black paint, black tires , black wheels and dog dish hubcaps on my cars although my next build is going to probably going to be a slammed to the ground '36 Ford phaeton with brown sealer painted from the doors back in 1963 and a patina'd Washington blue front end assembly. I've got a bunch of choices to work with but my '36 might be next in line, if I live long enough.........Mike
Below are 2 of my black beauties (in my eyes). A lot of guys don't like the look but I build my cars so that I like them, not worrying if others like them. I ran different wheels/tires on both my roadster and my vicky before I finally decided on black.I sold my '32 a short time ago as my arthritis wouldn't let me get in and out of it.

  15. Mike,

What size tires are you running on the Elky?

I'm needing to round up a set for mine.

    Thanks, Jim

Nice Ride! Reminds me of my old ride; bought in LA, drove it home cross country, and then put it to good use......This photo was taken at a local car club event in Waltham Ma.

very cool el camino, I have always had a soft spot for them. I personally think the factory fuelie setup would be very cool. I love NOS and surviving parts. Good luck with that 1 last %

    Thanks, I appreciate it.

I'm glad you like it. I like the simple look in my cars. Sometimes it's hard to get that look.

Hello Jay, I still need the fuel injection plenum air duct called the "parking meter" because it looks like a parking meter turned sideways. If you see one, call me. I e-mailed my phone number to you. I'll pay virtually any amount for one, plus pay you a finder's fee. They did make fiberglass re-pops which will be ok until I get an authentic one...Thanks,Mike
