Projects My 60 Chevy Sedan Delivery ! Back on the road !

  1. So glad to hear that things finally worked out for you! I guess I can uncross my fingers, toes, and eyes now.:D Seriously, I was thinking more about your situation. I believe that company produces good glass made in the USA and not that cheap, brittle, stuff from overseas. Glass is fragile, period, but that freight company must have really mishandled it to destroy such good glass. It's really great that they made things right with you, which tells me that they are a good company, but it sure seems that they cud have made things easier on all concerned parties by just labeling their boxes as "Glass" and "Fragile." I may be dealing with them in the future as I may be in need of some glass for my '59 El Camino. If so, we'll see if the situation has improved any.

  2. So the windshield is actual made in Mexico, when I looked today.... but they made good on refunds...

  3. Thanks for the info. While I'd much prefer it to be made in the USA, hecho in Mexico is a lot better than made in China or Taiwan. They seem like a stand up company by the way they dealt with your situation. The glass in my El Camino is all clear and I'd prefer to have tinted, but I have other things to finish on it before I decide on new glass or not.

  4. so the Sedan Delivery at one time had all the 60 Nomad/Kingswood rear taillight trim and tailgate moldings.. missing the center tailgate part. its a hard trim part to find... Lucky Craiglist inquiry the other night... I have to buy a complete tailgate for the molding... the only draw back is this trim isn't made for a SD... it's notched for the hinges on the bottom... I will figure some out to make it look right...it's off for a 85 mile drive to fetch it !

I guess I would call Precision Product and question them, see what they have to say about it.

  10. If the corners aren't correct, I'm assuming you mean the bottom corners. I've dealt with this before. I've had to put rope in the corners of the rubber, in the slot that the glass goes into, then put the windshield into the rubber. That makes the rubber conform to the body. But first I'd make sure I had the right rubber.

  11. they were closed today(Saturday) ... did leave a message.. see if I get a answer

  12. so the part number matches whats on the bag(unless its mis-packaged some how) ..will relay this to my glass guy.... he's been doing it a while... will see whats up...

  13. I'd like to think that you received the correct windshield after all the trouble you went through in getting it, but stranger things have happened. I may have been living under a rock, but I've never heard of Precision Products and I cudn't find them when trying to Google them. So, here's two other places to call tomorrow that I've been doing business with for years and have had no problems. Both are on the East Coast so be mindful of the time as they are 3 hours ahead of you. The first is Steele Rubber, tel: 1-800-447-0849, hours: 8am-6pm Mon-Fri. They produce a number of rubber products, primarily for GM vehicles, over a wide range of years. They list the windshield rubber for 1960 Chevrolets including the El Camino in their catalog. The Sedan Delivery is not listed, but I believe that is becuz it is not a high selling model. I've not had personal experience with 1960 models, but I have a '59 El Camino. It's my belief that the '59 and '60 vehicles are quite interchangeable and that the El Camino and Sedan Delivery are as well. I've also been under the impression over the years that the windshield on the El Camino is different from the Impala, but the same for two and four door sedan Biscaynes and related station wagon. The other place to contact is Eckler's Late Great Chevy, tel: 1-800-285-7461, hours: 8am-6pm Mon-Fri. In this store, they carry various parts for 58-72 Chevrolets. I saw on line that they carry the windshield rubber for 59-60 Chevy, part# 40-141765-1, and the rear window rubber for 59-60 Chevy Sedan Deliveries, part# 40-141791-1. I don't like on-line shopping and I can't put my finger on their catalog right now, as there is more info in the catalog about specific applications, especially in the glass section. Their tech guy shud be able to make that same discernment and tell you what fits your vehicle.

  14. Thanks Bowtie Coupe, The windshield is correct ... think we have it figured out... going to over night one from Steele Rubber Products, The price they have on there gasket is $125.00 verse, Ecklers & Impala Bob's and Classic Indust...are about $40.00.. Going with Steele Rubber Products... I found Precision on the net, That's what I get buying off E***... Should have asked questions... will keep ya posted... Thanks buddy !

  15. Good show! Steele has supplied the rubber parts for a number of my vehicles including my '34 Chevy coupe and '59 El Camino. I believe they are first class items. Glad to help anyway I can.

  16. well patched the hinge openings on the Nomad wagon trim panel .. so that I can put it on the Sedan Delivery... Little black paint this evening on the vertical lines in the panel... and pop it on when I get the SD back from windshield install... 3M panel bond works great !
well finished patching the 60 Nomad tailgate panel , fine line tape and painted... DSC02142.JPG PANEL 4.jpg PANEL 3.jpg

  17. so Bowtie Coupe , here we go again... I ordered from Precision , part #WCR D567 windshield gasket... no provision (groove in rubber) for upper windshield stainless and "A" pillar stainless... I ordered from Steele Rubber Products, 70-0671-50 same gasket and problem. Contacted Steele, products and they called me back.. The tech line guy I spoke with said he would need to get back with me.. I stated what was wrong with the gasket , no stainless provisions. *designed to be used with reveal molding... Told that yes the lower may clip but the sides and top need a groove in the rubber...
so some has had to run into this problem... I'm beating my head against the door... There has to be a easy answer to what is the right weatherstrip... plenty of these cars get restored... and all the cars I've seen have the stainless...

I believe all 59 and 60 full size cars used the same windshield. So, I would guess you need the rubber for an Impala in order to accomodate the bright work.

  19. so looks like I will be changing the stainless windshield trim over to wider clip in style ... I did find one company in North Carolina... That is the only one that makes the correct weatherstrip for a Biscayne Wagon( grooved weatherstrip for T style stainless) They had some fitment issues, and just now have fixed the issue.. bad news they are 4 weeks out... and my car is taking up space in my buddy's garage.. So I hate to change the stainless, but can't wait...need to get the windshield done..

  20. so my buddy Dave, installed the windshield today... We had to take a short trip to Ron's Auto Wrecking... Since Dave was going to have to retro-fit the upper line style Impala, Bel-Air windshield stainless... So he had to get the measurements for the upper windshield stainless trim holes on the leading header of the roof ... Measures distance between the hole, and drilled... lucky the inner structure had the access holes there already.... just need to do some sealing ... reinstall trim... Next the seat is coming out, and I have carpet and new sill plate cover to install... send the seat out for recover...

  27. so , had the ole 60 out(BRRRR !) , Looks like I need to get my head under the dash and see why I don't have any heat... see what maybe is broken or missing on the heater assy... I know for sure I have no heater fan speed for sure... need to check cable connection at heater valve. It's a Bicayne... so it has the bottom line heater controls... Guess the next swap meet need to find a good repair manual.. This may be a good time , waiting for the uph. guy to fit me in to cover the seat... finishing coating the floor & sound deadner...
