For those who know me I have been working on a 1960 Cad 331 Powered Jimmy forever now and finally it will get closer to being completed. After my brothers T- Bird is done this week,I will be taking the Jimmy over to my friends to get the treatment.Maybe someone on here still has the Ito rendering of the truck on file,I dont have it in my computer any longer.I won't be making fins for it but the paint scheme will be the same.
I've got Ito's rendering still saved as a Wallpaper, but it's 309Kb. Could email it to ya, but not post it. I thought both major components motor/truck had been sold? Old dreams die hard, good luck on continuing the dream...
[ QUOTE ] I won't be making fins for it but the paint scheme will be the same. [/ QUOTE ] Why not? The fins are the best part!
Dondanno do I know you?? Born and raised here 31 years.------- I shouldnt have said no fins,I still have to look into that a bit more in detail..it might happen..
It's still gettin the T-bird Poncho nose, right? That Rocks! Didn't those fins come from a brainstorming session, right here?
yeah i want to get the front end looking like that rendering for sure..its a stock GMC grill flipped and like you said 55 Pontiac bunpers with a tube insert...period perfect from the mind of Mr Ito himself. The fins I believe did come from a session on this board way back in 2000 or early 2001! I've had the truck for what will be 10 years this January..It was my dailt until I started this project from hell in 97.
I need to find me a nice 64-66 Chevy hood..the hood will be welded to the fenders and pancaked. That ought to be interesting..someone here told me they had the bumpers..hmm..
Marcus we may know the same people. Moved from Fremont in 96 to Portland. I spent 32 years in Fremont. Last place I lived was Niles...Danny
Thanks but I need the later hood because it doesnt have the cat eyes.. shit Niles is around the block from me!!! I was the DJ at Big Daddys from 93-96!! I must know you plus I know Don Knopp really well.
Yes friends are good to have when building rods...I have one good buddy who is just an amazing mechanic but also a greta body and paint guy.I have known him for years but never knew he had the talent he does. He's the guy whosaved my 53 shitbox from the graveyard he did all the body work custom fins gave me wide whites and moon discs all that for $500!! and he worked on it evryday 6 hours a day for a few weeks until it was done>>Thats a friend..he is doing my bros T Bird and you will shit when you see it!! I think he did all the labor for $1200!nosed decked shaved body and paint! My bro bought the supplies at discount through a local supplier I used to use.
Marcus I used to own the bodyshop across from Dons place I worked a few of his cars. I also remember going to Big Daddys and the bait shop where the 7 11 is now...
Well then you would have known my uncle Mike and Janice Smith of smiths furniture in Niles too.Man I almost forgot about that old bait shop!! Geez! and if i remember right there was a gas station next to Big Daddy's as well as super saver 7 or something.
I think Travis had an ElCamino he cut up, but He probably got rid of the bed area. If you can't get the right bumpers, try Old Datsun truck rear ones, they are split but smaller. Jimmillac needs fins.
Oh ya I know the the Smiths I try to look Mike up every time I get back, good people. Yes there was a gas staion there, from what I can remember is the lot is still empty. From what I hear the Niles fleamarket is nothing like it was..Danny
More food for thought about split bumper. Check the rear of a 60 Buick. Rear bumper is a lower pan and split upper "bars." If you find some, SEND THEM TO ME AND GO GET YOUR OWN!!!
What kind of truck is it now? Or is it even a truck? just curious. I have a few 64-66 chevy trucks but I think the hoods are both messed up a little. I'd like to have one of those gmc grills tho.
Dondanno we have met before for sure.Small world! The truck is a 1960 GMC 1/2 ton custom series short bed fleetside.Which is pretty rare.originally it had the factory 305 V6 that ran like a son of a bitch. The Cad motor went in back in 99'
