This is my 66 ranchero i trade my 89 jeep yj for. planing on geting the 289 going fixing the floors and body and painting it red not shere on the colour i want thinking poppy. looking for a porject name so if you have any let me here them. if you have thoughts or ideas i would like to here them to. i love input good or bad.

so for where im at right now.
the man i traded with told me it would turn over that was a lie. To bad would have been nice to just have to rebuild the carb and put new fluid in it and going.
well when i tryed to turn it over by hand it would go so far and stop. well first thought stuck valve well thats not bad if thats it so pull vale covers come off so i can see with side the stuck vale is on. turn motor over slowly and and all most all of the intake vales are not moveing but the rocker arm is.
Never seen that before so grabe one with my hand and the rocker was so losse i could allmost trun is all the way around. WELL THATS NOT GOOD!! and thats when it got to dark for me to keep going

If the motor has ben sitting for a while the lifters are just bled down. take out the dis.and prime the engine oil pump with a drill and a priming tool.

well after pulling the left head found out two things 1 there is know way theres 33,000 miles on this engine 2 time is out so bad it made one of the push rods look like a bow. It looks like i might have to rebuild the motor wasn't planing on rebuilding it. But if i have to i have to.

Too bad about the engine but the 289 is simple and cheap to rebuild. The 1966 has the same 6 bolt bell housing and engine mount pattern as all of the later 289/302/351W/351c engines so it's easy to swap it out if you want. The engine compartment on the 1966 Falcon/Ranchero is the same as the Fairlane staring that year so it's easier to swap in larger engines. Good luck with it!

So, did the Canadian version come with the Falcon front end? Or is that something that has been swapped?? Whatever, it's a very nice find. Congrats!

The 66 was considered a Falcon, they had the Falcon dash and front sheet metal. Some people have swapped to the 66-67 Fairlane front end. ROY.

Thanks guys. I can't believe that I didn't know that. I couldn't at all recall seeing one of this generation that didn't have the Fairlane front end.

It sure would have been nice if Ford used the '66-'67 front ends on those.... They probably would have sold alot more..

The pic makes the body look better then it is. the floors are shot and most of the fire wall. plus the electrical is fighting tooth and claw not to work right. If it wast for me being stubrin as a mule and my friends betting me i wouldn't get it on the road in the next five years i would get the jeep back

my friend has a 90 ford truck with a 302 that was running when he parked it 2 years ago he want 300 for the truck. How hard would it be to put in the ranchero? are the 289 and 302 the same blocks?
