Well, the motor in the spacetruck started blowing blue smoke and the oil pressure was kind of fluctuating. This is a busy time of year for me, and believe it or not, I am not much of a mechanic, so I wasn't going to have time to dick with the motor and have it ready for Goodguys Indy in June. My tranny was also acting up because I tried to save a buck and put the wrong pump on it and burned up 3rd and 4th gear.

Long story short...It rained and I got a day off and picked up the tranny that "shifts" had prepared for me. I got it home and bolted it to the brand new crate motor that I picked up from the Chevy dealer. Don't worry though, my buddy works at a Body Shop and got me the discounted price!

So now, everything is new in the driveline and I should be able to drive that sucker anywhere, as opposed to me trying my hand at rebulding a motor and it blowing up on the way to Indy. It fired off without a hitch, I had a small leak on the water pump which I quickly remedied, and off I went. I put fifty miles on it or so and all seems well.

So a big thanks goes out to Dave "shifts" for the tranny work! It is shifting OK, I have a little tweeking to do but that will be no biggie to do.

I hope it does well. It is supposed to rain this Friday so I may be able to take it to the first local show of the year.

If any of you are near Central IL (Champaign) on Saturday, May 1 check out the Parkland College car show. It is put on by the Auto Mechanics department. Not a bad little show. Parkland even has their own Drag car!

  5. Why are you so worried about a create motor?

There may be a few people on this board that might poo-poo the idea of having soemthing other than a $200 grease-ball engine powering their blocked up pile of parts that are sitting in the same spot in their garage since last June... but you... you have a bitchen', running, driving hot rod that you want to run BETTER... so fuck them... don't make excuses... most of us would still like you even if your buddy didn't get you the motor at a reduced price. Drive on!

    Sam.

You would have to do more than that to become a Gold Chainer. Besides know one would believe it with Winger blaring out of the stereo.

There's no shame in what you did. But now everybody is going to expect to see you and your "reliable" truck at every event within a 500 mile radius of your house. There is no more getting away with the "I had a problem with my oil pump" or "My truck's been running hot and I need to stay home and figure it out" on those weekends when you'd rather just stay home and watch porn...

  9. Your truck is killer. It's kool and very original. I hope ya have ball with it this summer. I can't wait to take some pics of it at that Pile Up. [IMG]

It's the Buick parts rebelling against being lugged around by a Chebby motor and trans. [IMG] [IMG]

wait a second... you bought a motor cheaper than you can rebuild one yourself, the new motor you have is more reliable than any other motor you could have bought and its got a 3 year warranty? who in their right mind could bash you for that??

looks great.. gold chainer your not...your just smart.

Hank, I've begun referring to "antiquing" as "The HankCash Treatment." I agree, best one yet. I especially like the stain.

Big up to Johnny Ace for giving me the idea about adding a "date" on the bottom corner.... it's opened up a whole new world!!!

Rudy, I usually drink too much at Indy to stay up late enough or get up early enough to get near the pro pick area. I don't think they'd like the fly that is in my paint anyway! [IMG] Are you gonna get your 40 in there?

I'll bet it will be more fun out in the mud anyway. I'm still waiting to hear more about this "homebuilt heaven area" that they are supposed to have.

    That's a cool pic Hank!

No Winger this summer. I don't have a stereo yet. Maybe I'll put a CD changer in there so I can load up my entire KIX collection. Nothing bettter than KIX for a road trip, let me tell you.

And Sam, don't worry, those who know me can verify that I really don't give a shit what people think. I am just funnin'. [IMG]
