Ive played around with different techniques. Some are more like a cursive e, some are like a wave pattern. Depends. The cursive e technique tends to lay down the best looking welds. As far as wire speed goes it has been all over the place depending on thickness. Some of the welds are the machine on autoset as well, which works good but the heat isnt quite there as much as id like. I usually just set the wire speed to the miller chart recomendations ( dont laugh, im a welding newb ), and then play with the heat. Honestly every setting ive tried has worked flawlessly. Best move i made buying that thing. And i still have a long ways to go to get better, but thanks for the compliment

    Thanks henry

Well i came down to throw in my new master cylinder........ Hits the trans crossmember. This actually isnt a bad thing per say, ive been looking for the slightest reason to ditch that shitty stamped camaro unit. Ill fab a new tubular one tomorrow with the leftover tube n plate steel i have. Anyway, the new parts look nice :D

No power boost? Just curious. I'm running stock but if I was to go this far I'd be feeling like adding power boost would be nice to have. I've seen them advertised for under cab mount but never been down that road.

Na, no power. I had manual brakez in my 54 customline n it honestly didnt feel much different. Buzznut hooked me up with this brake setup. Its an old corvette style master setup for manual disc/drum. I like stuff super clean and simple. Power woulda been more expensive and more to worry about imho. Also unless i designed and fabbed my own brackets and system, NONE of the framerail mounted power brackets offered work with the stock mechanical clutch

Looks good man, just like my set-up. I'll be interested in seeing what you come up with on that trans rear crossmember...I was think about buying or making one myself also.

My brake setup is exactly the same. Works great with no booster, my subframe is earlier and has a slightly different crossmember and it does not hit the master at all. If you know someone with that type 69-70 you may be able to use it instead of making one. Its a stretch I know its not like they are all over.........just throwing it out there

Well it snowed all day today so i just camped in the shop. Almost got the crossmember done and ran outta wire AGAIN!!! I need to start buyin bigger spools. Heres some pics, almost done. I couldnt figure out how to bolt it to the framerails because of the clip so i just welded the sides in solid and the center section is removable for trans removal. Ill get better pics tomorrow of everything. The removable center turned out killer. I need shorter bolts as well

I dont know much of anything about vettes, i think the master cylinder everyone uses is very similar in construction to the vette types but they are setup to be run with disc/drum

Why respond to negative posts? Some dirtbag responded to my post of bolting up my license plate bracket post. I didnt respond. Who cares if it wasn't a vette master cylinder you do good work. Keep it up dude. I look at your progress daily

I have no way of knowing if that is true or even finding information to verify it. All I know is that this master cylinder is called a Corvette style and is available in either disc/drum or disc/disc....and it works for our trucks.

You got some mad fabrication skills there Green - I like the crossmember a lot. Wish I had a better welder...I'd fab one up just like it.

Thanks everyone im trying to make some cool parts to the best of my ability. I may put another small gusset tube underneath the outer bars bridging from the camaro clip under the frame. Still undecided. I need to buy bigger spools cuz running out of wire is annoying lol

Hey I could be wrong but I thought I heard somethig about peoples exhaust over heating brake likes, and brake fluid? If thats true are you concerned about the header collectors being that close to the master cylinder? I know everyone runs mastercylinders under the floor like this so maybe I'm wrong, I just wasn't sure?

You are correct that it could happen, the pics are deceiving the angle of the shot makes it look a lot closer than it is. Mine are similar to his and have never had an issue, if you wanted you could use some exhaust wrap on the beginning section to give some assurance.

the pics are deceiving. as a reference point, the headers dump in front of where the trans case and tailhousing meet. its a good foot+ away from the master. im just running 2" pipe all the way back with glasspacks dumped before the rear. should have a nice classic glasspack sound

The angle of the pic really does make it look like a bad set-up, but like everyone else here, I know from first hand that it's not that close.

As far as wrapping the exhaust, I plan on doing that on both sides just below the collector and all the way back to the muffler. I figure it will help due to my battery location (inside the frame rail opposite the m/c) and will also help keep under-cab heat to a minimum.

Exhaust wrap makes a HUGE difference in heat transfer. The wrap I picked up is industrial grade and is what we use on our underground trucks and scoops to keep the operating temperatures down. I't's backed with a silicon membrane that softens to make a seal with the over lapping layer

This is a long way off but im torn between two colors and two wheel styles. Either a dark red/maroon or a dark blue. And for wheels either chrome steeliez or black steelies with trim rings

Heres some red/maroon with chrome steels

And these are the trim rings id run on the black steeliez with spiders. I have a set of rings from my 54 ford

The white walls are not doing it for me with all chrome, okay on the black wheels because of the contrast. Are you looking at white walls too?
I think the midnight blue is a much tougher looking statement for your truck, as much as I like maroon.

I like the black wheels with the blue. The saw the 32 in the first picture in person. Color was awesome looking. I like the chrome steelies, kinda early 60's vibe. Another cool thing with the chromes, when the chrome goes bad, a little paint and ill have black wheels anyway. Also i think a white grill would look sweet on the blue
