Very cool!!!! I might need one of them!! :D

So Jeff took the 68 pickup column apart to paint and install the new signal wiring... well 3 weeks later and he put it back together but it wasn't right and was loose. So we had to buy another one to figure it out... got it all back together and I have an extra column for my 51 chevy coupe now!! :D

Well i got the floor patch tacked in, got the column tube cut. Drilled the hole for the set screw and started to tap it with threads. Broke the fuckin tap. I have no fucking clue how im gettin this out. Im done for the day

Ok so ive decide that the set screw idea is just not gonna work and seems kinda weak. theres a hairline crack in the shaft from me trying to beat the tap out. What im going to do is order a new shaft, and then weld a thick washer around the steering shaft where the set screw would be. The shaft will slide up through the bottom of the column untill the washer hits the lower bearing with an o ring between the two. then the wheel will just bolt up top against the top bearing, if that makes sense

Just weld that shaft up!! No need to order another! But a 67-72 column would've been quicker! ;)

Try welding a bolt to the tap and then unthread it. Or like Chaddilac said, weld it up and keep moving forward! Truck is looking good!!!

Thanks guys, and the hairline crack just turned out to be a scratch anyways so its all good. I tried welding bolts, nuts and other shit to get it out. Tried drilling it too. Im just gonna fill it with weld and move forward

If you have a torch its no big deal to blow that tap outa the hole.

Well i got the column knocked out except for the mounts. Ill do that soon. Under the welded washer is a rubber oring sandwiched to the bearing face. Everythings nice and snug and it spins effortlessly

Thanks guys, 59 im still debating on leaving the stock seat springs and foam or redoing it like you did with the wood and new foam. The seat i have is in killer shape and sits pretty comfy. I cant wait to try the interior stuff, you make it look easy as hell

Bam, ive been checking your build out. Cant wait to see more updates man. The stainless lines turned out sweet

Btw guys i dont know if i ever mentioned that the truck is actually a 55, it was switched to the 58-59 front before i bought it. I thought about switching it back and had every opportunity to, but i like the 58-9 front ends, especially with a 58 impala front bumper. Its gonna be a head scratcher at local shows, they hang the year/make/model tag in the windshield. 55 chev, with a 58-59 front and sectioned 59 jimmy grille, a 58 imp bumper and a gmc dash lol

Just a clamp on deal, i really like the limeworks signal switch since the wires are hidden but its 155 bucks which is pretty damn steep. Also disregard the off topic billet shit in this pic, but i wanna chrome the ashtray, radio delete, heater controls, and door panels like this pic, also upper door trim and possibly the glovebox door and steering column. And im making custom engine turned gauge panels. It should really pop with a gloss black dash

Thanks. It really is easy and judging on your persistence I think you can do it too. I didn't even bother making the wood bottom I just reused the bottom pan and it works just fine. No sense on reinventing the wheel. You could add foam to the top face of the springs. The truck may ride more quiet too if you get rid of the springs all together

That is my buddy's truck. First off he has a disability that's why his shifter is made that way.

Second not everyone in the world has a no billet rule, he did not post his car here, GreenGrenade did. Its his truck and he built it to his liking not yours. He may be disabled but he does all his work and he is a engine wizard and the biggest gear head I know.

    GreenGrenade
BTW I don't think he cares if you would not be caught dead with his ideas on your truck. You are lucky you don't have to deal with his disabilities. Plus he did what he did for him not for you.

Bam, were not tryin to step on anyones toes man. were not trashin his mechanical abilities or anything of that nature. If i had known about his situation then i wouldnt have made a comment on his shifter, in fact it woulda been the other way around. Theres a guy on here with the username kripfink that has a bitchin ford panel truck thats made to accomadate his paralysis. But as far as billet goes man its like anthrax to this forum. Again its just personal preference and mainly its not what this forum is about, so theres gonna be a lot of people who dont like it on here and will openly express that. Its not a direct knock on ur friend and i wouldnt expect him to build his truck any other way than the way HE wants it, just as me and you and everyone else does, but billet is just not what this place is about. I posted his truck on here because i LIKE elements of his dash and wanted to show other people. And i shoulda edited it out like chad said to prevent a billet war of words from starting. Sorry for any ruffled feathers

My feathers are not ruffled. Just stating facts. He and I are both members on hamb because we simply love cars and build pics and we are not narrow minded enough to think that everybody has to like the same things. If the craftsmanship is there I love it, I love great craftsmanship and I'm also a fan of home builders so I come to look.

My buddy and my pics were not posted here by us because we understand the kind of site this is. My truck is BAM friendly and I never set out to please anyone but BAM, and BC's (thats who pic was posted) truck was built to please BC. I really don't care what other people think unless they are putting up the money and time to build my car. I don't see anyone doing that but me, so what others think is not even a thought to me. If I were to build to what others like it would no longer be what I want. I never had an issue or a problem with what I like or what I think looks good. So I will stick to what has worked for me for years.

My toes are not step on and my feathers are not ruffled. I fully understand that all you have to do to be criticized is step out your front door and someone will talk shit about you. That's just the way it is.

Back to your thread. I love the work you did on the steering column man its looking really nice. Your whole build is looking nice you should be proud of your work.

That makes complete sense!!! I really don't care for the billet, mostly I was just bustin' GG's chops.

All is good man, everyone has different tastes. and as you said even if its not to someones particular taste i think most people respect good craftsmanship.

Anyways back to cars an things......... Its been a while since therez been a show of any kind up here. Checked one out today. Herez a few bikes and cars. Its nice to get out and shoot the shit with people when youve been cooped up due to cold weather

So today i welded up the driver side floor patch completely, did a little grinding on the passenger rocker and hinge pocket. They still need a bit more work but its close. I then filled the stock column hole in the floorboard and made progress on the lower mount. Everything is pretty much just tacked for now. Steering linkage looks like itll work great and i just sat a door in there for the pic so the gaps are wayyy off
