That would be great to see how it fits, I didn't see the 55-9 doors on the goodmark site anymore??

  3. I won't have it until next weekend but I'll post some pics when I get it and give you all a report. I'm hoping they are as nice as they claim.

Enjoy the build thread, good stuff. Looking at a 58 from CA a buddy picked up and brought back to Nebraska a few months ago. It is in fair shape with only some surface rust. He wants $3500 which seemed high until I found this thread. I may have to reconsider.

    Keep up the good work!

you need to find out if it is DYI or not. That is the door I have and they are hardly the best fit on the market

Saxman, can't wait to see the door from Brothers. I think we would al appreciate seeing photos from all angles and close-ups showing quality. Brothers may end up getting a decent amount of business from the group of us...I'm in dire need of a passenger door myself.

Maybe we should talk to them about discount pricing if we do some sort of group buy.

Good idea buzz, hell im sure theres other guys on here who could use a door as well. If it turns out nice, we can shoot some pm's around and get a few other dudes in on doors. Worth a shot.....

Is the truck a fleet or stepside ? And if its only surface rust, id say a clean cali truck is worth 3500 all day. What running gear is in it?

Couple questions. How high off the floor is the stock seat mounted ? I need to make a custom mount since i dont have the stock tracks. What thread size are the bolts that hold a muncie shifter on ? And has anyone come up with a solution for the master cylinder door in the floorboard ? Im thinking maybe a fuel fill door for a wood bed ?

I'll try to take a few measurements when I get home tonight...unless someone else beats me to it.

If it were me I'd have the engine checked to see if it's something simple. And maybe not so simple, but fixable, would be a head job. I don't think there's anything wrong with those IL6's, in fact, they're great motors when they're running well.

    Thanks dude

Totally agree, im a huge straight six fan. me and my dad are gonna be freshening up his 300 ci ford 6 very soon. The chevys are good mills. Chevys also tend to have more aftermarket parts floating around as well. All said and done if youre looking for great mileage in a daily, a small block would probly be the cheapest, easiest way. The 6's are cool as hell though

Didn't get to the truck tonight - ended up with a flat on the way home and messed up my home schedule...sorry about that. I will be able to tomorrow night.

I have a GMC 270 that I'd like to build, but in all I'd be looking at nearly double in costs over a SBC. Someday I hope...maybe when I win the lotto.

Yeah man, i know the small blocks are belly button motors to some. But there hard to beat for the price, whether it be performance or a mild build. And no worries man, whenever you can get the measurements is cool

I somewhat understand the "everyone's got one" mentality, but for the most reliable engine on the planet, not sure there's too much to knock. I have a few 60's 327 (including the one in my '56) which I think are still somewhat coveted and respected, so bellybutton doesn't really apply, but there's nothing wrong with a well running, strong SBC.

I agree, at the same time though, the availability of engines and parts is one of its best assets in my eyes. So cheap to find parts and super easy to build. Plus i dont think guys back in the day would complain about running a small block so why do it now lol

It has been said before by others, but maybe it won't hurt to repeat it that the doors from all the 55-59 trucks are the same (except for COE). If you can find old farm trucks, used for seasonal hauling, you may find some solid doors. City kids probably won't see these locally though. Just a tip! :)

OK, measurements: on the drivers side, if you measure the front of the seat where the front corner transitions from a radius to straight (the front lower edge of the steel frame) to the floor (not the raised part where the seat is bolted, but the lowest part of the floor) it appears to be approx 5.75 vertical inches from the floor to the seat frame. A second measurement I took is at the back hinge. Right where the hinge attaches and pivots to the lower half of the seat frame, measure from the floor up to the seat frame (just under that pivot) and it appears to be approx 3.5 vertical inches. This second measurement I could be off a tad simply because I was using a tape measure and bending the tape between the floor and the seat to get the measurement. It was dark and wet, and if you don't want "close" measurements, but instead exact measurements, then let me know and I'll do that this weekend....it's no problem, just tonight I couldn't find my calipers or mic. Let me know...

Thanks buzz, and those measurements are fine. I just wanted a general idea of where the stock mounts set. Im probably going to drop the seat lower than that. Right now its pretty much on the floor. I like it, but its a bit too low, i just wanted to find a happy medium. Thanks again dude

Well i found out the tru helmet air cleaners i wanted to run on my 3x2 absolutely suck, well actually they dont suck. Apparently they are super restrictive and dont suck in enough air. So now im debating between old school frog mouths, fish style frog mouths, and short angle cut velocity stacks. Whichever i choose will have painted inners

Whichever style is on the green rod would be my choice...with red inner paint, or matched to the engine bay, engine or body color.

Yeah those are the fish style frog mouths. I really dig em. Problem is there not easy to find and not cheap, if i can finde em those are the ones i want. The normal frog mouths are kinda overdone, but still look good. The motor will be gold, so the inner air cleaners will probably be gold as well

Yeah, ive thought about it. They have a kinda flatter profile than round tubing, i could probably make it work somehow. Those fish style frog mouths seem like a pain to make tho .......

Small updates. Getting started on the outer hinge pocket patches. I also made seat mounts, but i really didnt like the design at all so i scrapped it. I have been losing motivation for this build for a while now. The winter has just sapped all my energy to work on it, and ive been trying to rush through things. I need to slow down again and start thinking through things when i fab them. Im gonna make a frame with risers out of tubing that will bolt to the floor and then have the seat bolt to that. Ill get the steel monday for that....

I received the lower hinge pocket patch from LMC...it's actually a quality piece. I need to try to get that started tomorrow, as well as try to figure out why my passenger door upper hinge is sticking so bad. I rebuilt the hinges with new bushings and pins, but the spring slide arm/pivot is really gummed up and deeply scored...really jerky hinge movement.

I understand the lack of motivation, especially following the winter where weather kills your momentum. I'm in "want to drive it" mode and really don't have the patience to take my time. If it's not on the road and driveable by the end of this month I'm going to be pretty upset.
