Rik, I don't know how I missed this thread! Some of the best looking photos at a car show I have seen in a long time and it doesn't get much better than all them sexy Merc's! I envy you , that was an experience that won't happen again. I still check into your fotki often, always something nice and lot's of inspiration for a model builder thanks for all you do!
I have been writing a few articles about custom car history for a Dutch magazine called KR8 CruiseMagazine. So after I returned home from my US trip, I started to write an article about my experiences at the Sacramento Autorama. For this magazine I do the complete article. Lay-out, text, photo editing etc, so I know exactly how everything will be in the end. After a rough layout I figured I needed at least 5 spreads to do the article I wanted to do. Luckily I was able to convince the editor and he gave me the 5 spreads so I had some space to show most of the cars. Still not all of them, and still I had to cut back on the writing and the historical photos to show how some of the cars looked way back when they where just built. But overall I'm rather pleased the way it turned out. Today the printed magazine showed up in my mailbox... made my day!!!
Very kool article. As always another great job Rikster. So far this looks like the best coverage of the gathering. I'm going to have to get me a copy of the magazine. How can I get one?? I know I should have gone to the show. Happy Trails, Mick
What a great looking article. Just got my Rodders Journal out to compare the two, but there is no comparison. Your layout and photos are so much better, and in less pages. Its a shame TRJ didnt get you to do a coverage on the show, seeing you have done work for them before. You should send them a copy so they can see what they missed out on. In re reading TRJ article I noticed that you didnt recieved any mention or thanks relating to the show. I remember reading all the pre show posts where you were compiling photos and information on the cars that were to be displayed and put those into a presentation on each of them. That made me think that you were involved in some way. And seeing you travelled so far to be there. Would be nice to get a copy of that magazine just for the photos. But I will just go back to the start of this post, to look at all the great photos you took.
Please post up info on how to get a couple copies; I would like to send a copy to my uncle so he can ad it to his scrap book on the car.
rikster, I need a cold shower. OH brother. This weekend I am gonna take my time and take in all your awesome photos and info. Thanks so much, its like going to school again. Best, Slim
Rik, I am speechless. I only wish I would of had my new(goodyear) tires for that show. I dont know how to thank you enough for that photo.
I was in the Middle East when this thread first appeared, so missed it....really glad it's back.....Rik, the time and attention you spend on bringing these customs to life is really appreciated!!!
Thanks guys... I have emailed the editor and asked about availability for the US market for this issue. I have suggested that Hambers can ordered it and pay for it using Paypal... But I'm not sure if that is possible... or that I will buy a stack of them and you can order them from me... As soon as I know more I will let it know here. You have to realize the writing is in Dutch... so you will not be able to read it... unless you have a Dutch dictionary or something like that.
That layout looks great! I already know form this thread that the pics are great. Rikster you should write a damn book!
Hi Rik!!! For ma a copy too. Please!!! Can i order this copy here in Europe?? Or i have to wait for the stack you will order from the publisher?? Thanx Chris
Depending a bit on the number of mags desired, I would think it's cheaper for everyone to just send over a stack of (pre-labeled) magazines to someone in the US and mail the mags seperatly from there.
Sorry it took me a bit longer than expected... But here is the info on getting a copy of the Dutch magazine with the feature on the Mercury Gathering that I created. Here are the cost for the magazine including shipping: Outside of Europe $ 14.50 In europe 8.10 Euro The magazine itself cost 4 euro's ($5.50) Shipping is what makes it expensive. If you want to have a copy of this Dutch magazine send me a PM with your address and I'll give you my PayPal info. If there is enough interest I will make a translation to English available.
I'm in for a translation version! If not, I'll take the Dutch version, I can't really even read English that well so it doesn't matter.
