We all know how unseasonably chilly last week was in the Midwest.:( A couple of days before the PileUp, when I found out the forecasted high for Friday in Detroit was going to be in the high 30’s with a 30% chance of rain and snow, I decided it would be very stupid to cruz Big Olds that far in those temps and conditions. I contact Aaron51Chevy to find out how him and the “Usual Suspects” were rolling. He told me they were taking his Suburban and even though there was six already planning on going they said they could squeeze me in no problem. I was alittle sad that Big Olds wasn't going to be able to make it but I kept saying to myself, "self, you had a GREAT time at the Lonestar Roundup without Big Olds, you'll have a GREAT time at the PileUp as well." Guess what?? I was right!

Four of the guys all work together so we met in their work parking lot at 11am….it was 38 degrees. One guy was sick so there ended up being 5 guys and me.

Aaron51Chevy, our driver for the weekend. Thanks sweetie. I felt safe and secure with you behind the wheel.;)

Buckle and CookieHate. Yes, that’s correct. There is someone in this world that doesn’t like my cookies….or any other cookies I might add.

Zeebo and myself copped the middleseats.

About an hour into our travels two mini-vans overcame us in full highway roadrage! They were driving like such ***holes and endangering everyone that I called the State Police. One of the vans must have noticed the flash cuz he rapidly took the first exit afterward.

We hit Chicago in full rush-hour traffic compounded by contruction. I don’t know how you guys in that area deal with it on a daily bases. Aaron had made plans with someone in Chicago to purchase a bicycle and before we left Aaron had bought two. Lucky for me the tires on the FairLady held air and Aaron allowed me to cruz it around the fairgrounds during the PileUp.

While picking up the bike we had the old bike owner take a photo of us.

Lots of laughs the whole trip west and we rolled into Morris just as the sun was setting.

Here were the story gets interesting. Some might remember me adding my comments on a thread on the HAMB last Wed or Thursday regarding me calling the Comfort Inn to confirm my reservation and found out that Amanda at the Comfort Inn in Morris booked me arriving on SEPT 13th not Oct 13th and charged my credit card for $88. and some change because I didn’t show. What the **** do they ask for your phone number for if they are not going to use it if/when you don’t show up??? Anyway, I talked to Kim and she got me a new reservation for OCT 13th and 14th. I thought I was set.

We roll into the parking lot of the Comfort Inn. I get dropped off because the rest of the “Usual Suspects” are staying at the Holiday Inn about a block away. I’ve got a couple of bags PLUS a set of ’57 Caddy gl*** wrapped in bubblewrap for a HAMB relay. I get to the front counter. The girl behind the counter Kim, who got me the new reservation asked for my name which I told her. She then asked how I wanted to pay for it. I told her I would pay for one nite but I expect one of the nites comp’ed because they had mistakenly booked me on the wrong day and charged my credit card. She then with an at***ude told me I got a credit. I then informed her as of that morning there was no credit on my acct. She then typed into the computer and gave me a receipt which showed the charge and a credit. No apology or anything.

I said fine and handed her my charge card for the two nites and she then informed me it was going to be $190.95 per nite!! WHAT?? I told her I have a confirmation number with $80.74 as the per nite charge. She told me that was for LAST month and if I wanted to sleep there it would be $190.95! I then said something to the effect that AMANDA is the one that ****ed up why should I have to pay more. Amanda then got into the “discussion” and informed me I was not staying there under any cir***stances and because I wouldn’t leave she called the cops.

I stood there at the front counter for about 5 minutes till TWO Morris police cars arrived. About this time is when Plowboy, Youngrodder and a few others walked into the lobby. The police heard both sides to the story but informed me that any hotel/motel can refuse service to anyone at anytime under any cir***stances and that I would have to leave. I explained that I didn’t have a car there and that my friends were staying at the Holiday Inn. He said comeon, I’ll give you a lift and picked up my bags and put them in the back seat of the police SUV. I grabbed the gl*** and placed them in there as well. He made room for me in the front seat. About this time DirtyT, my roommate for the weekend, pulled up in the Flying Monkey with eyes as big a saucers as I was being ******ed into the car by the police. I told him just head to the Holiday Inn and I would explain later.

Once we were both inside and the doors were closed he said “17 year olds on power trips” as he shook his head from side to side. He asked me a few questions about the car show as he took me to the Holiday Inn. He was very nice and very pleasant.

Of course there was a crowd in the Comfort Inn parking lot when I got in the police SUV and in the Holiday Inn parking lot when I got out. Right when I got out LoBrow approached me and asked what was wrong. I told him DirtyT and I needed a room. He said if there wasn’t one we could stay with him and Tara. What a pal! I went to the front desk and just my luck there wasn’t one. I think Amanda called them but I can’t prove it. We then threw our stuff in LoBrow’s room but I wasn’t looking forward to sleeping on the floor. I’m getting too old for that.

Cleaned up a bit and headed to the bar inside the Holiday Inn to catch up with the “Usual Suspects”. Of course I had to rehash the whole story which by this time they had heard bits and pieces of already. They offered floor space as well ut they were already cramed in with 5 guys so I politely declined. Buckle really took a liking to my purse. Yep, you can certainly tell he’s a GMB.

We grabbed something to eat in the Holiday Inn bar and I must add the food was delicious. I had a stacked ham and cheese with steak fries and it was awesome. Someone else had a primerib sandwich, someone else had a ruben. EVERYTHING was great and I really needed the drink. I’d highly recommend the food there. Very reasonable priced too.

We all then headed to Fool’s bar. I got my first ride in the Flying Monkey on the way there. Once we got there not only was the bar packed but so was the streets. Cool cars everywhere. Cool friends everywhere. Hung out for a bit outside checking out the cars and catching up with folks.

Around midnite DirtyT and I decided it was time to head back to the Holiday Inn. When we hit the lobby I decided to stop and check to see if they had a room and low and behold they did! We stopped at LoBrow’s room to pick up our stuff and found Nick32Vic and LilDuec hanging out with them drinking beer and eating pizza. We hung out for a bit then the guys helped us carry our stuff to the room.

At this point I’ve gotta add that it was a pleasure sharing a room with DirtyT. He was quite as a church mouse and neither of us stepped on eithers toes. If anyone in the future has a need to share a room at a car event I can high recommend him.

The next morning dawned bright and clear but cold, and I returned to the “scene of the crime” as Plowboy stated. DirtyT and I went there for a yummy breakfast! Some decided other beverages beside milk should be used on their cereal.

After breakfast we headed back out to the car and ran into ContinentalJohn. Thanks for the stickers bud! Very much appreciated. It was GREAT seeing you again. I can’t believe I forgot to get a photo of you and I together. I then hopped in the Flying Monkey with DirtyT and headed the ½ mile to the fairgrounds.

WOW! Cool cars everywhere. I walked up and down both lines checking out the rides, chatting and taking photos.

Took a break and came back to where we stashed the coolers and stuff. I learned how to read the “labels” on the mason jars of “lemonade”

Ran into my good pal Lurker Larry, AKA HAMB member OldBobSign. He’s an awesome pinstriper and sign painter and did up this switch plate for me for my kitchen. In case you can’t tell, it’s a chocolate chip cookie painted in the middle! THANKS sweetie! I’m now thinking of you everytime I turn on my kitchen light from that switch.

Also ran into PeterPan of Chicago. It was GREAT seeing you again. Thanks so much for the stickers sweetie and thanks so much for all the signage. You and Larry did an AWESOME job!

DirtyT, ‘Ol Drippy, me, Detroitbuilt50, his girlfriend, LurkerLarry, Dave Shuten (I forget his HAMB name, so does he) and BenD. It was great hanging out with you guys and catching up.

Shortly thereafter we ran into VonDust and his Dad Mercdeuceman. GREAT seeing you two again and having the chance to hang out and chat.

About noon we headed over to the PinStripers meet and greet. PeterPan of Chicago had a small banner that all the guys were signing and stickers for all. Most of these stripers are HAMB members as well.

After a ton of signatures were collected Joel presented the banner to Larry for safe keeping.

Spent some time checking out the vendors and ran into MsMetal again.

Ran out to the Suburban about 1:30 to get the cookies and check out some of the rides in the parking lot. This little gem was just delivered back to its owner after a new hood and side were fabbed.

Got to the Meet and Greet area at 2pm. When I turned the corner by the side of the building, WOW! I couldn’t believe my eyes. I couldn’t believe the turnout! Cake was being cut and eaten, folks were wearing nametags and mingling. There had to have been 100 folks there at least. I cracked open the first Tupperware container and started walking around.

Doug A/B, please make sure you thank your brother(?) for the yummy cake. Not only was it delicious but looked AWESOME too!

The top of the cake was make out of white chocolate and was the only thing sitting on the table when it was all said and done. Every little crumb was devowered
    [IMG]

After the Meet and Greet I hopped on the FairLady and headed over to the “Circle of Fire” to watch the flamethrowers. There was a slap of cement there. I’m surprised there is no burnout contest.

Took a quick shower and met up with the “Usual Suspects” in the hotel resturant for dinner. Like I said earlier the food was delicious and reasonably priced. Give it a try next year.

Headed to Fool’s and right away got a treat as B*** pulled up, sounding AWESOME!! Huge crowd formed with everyone wanted to check out that sweet sounding Hemi.

The boys woulda had a really rough time without ya…..and thanks so much for the Meet and Greet nametags. They certainly helped out. You guys have ALL got to come to Detroit in March for the Autorama and enjoy the "party" in our neck of the woods.

Not sure who this is but he was heading east into Michigan as well
    [IMG]

In Jackson the traffic was backed up for miles so we took alittle detour and did the two laners for a bit and stumbled on a cool used car/junkyard lot. We did a u-e and pulled over to check out some of the cars and stretch our legs.

All in all a most AWESOME weekend! MANY, MANY thanks to the Chrome Czars and all the volunteers who made the weekend so special. I’m so looking forward to next year. I’d also like to thank everyone who braved the weather. My hats off to those that DROVE their roadsters, their windowsless and/or heaterless rides. Your’ve got bigger balls then I, that’s for sure!;) :D

WOW!!! Now I know why everyone waits for your road reports - they're just incredible! The photography is simply stunning. Sure was nice to see you again and finally get to taste your awesome chocolate chip cookies (I don't know about a lot of stuff but I know cookies and your's approach gourmet status). Thanks to you the Meet & Greet was huge and I was surprised that I knew so many people there, never realizing they were HAMBer's. The 5th Annual Pileup was the best yet (thanks Czars)! I even made it to Fool's on Saturday and vowed to return next year on Friday, as well. Thanks so much for taking the time to stop at the shop with your posse. You and the "Usual Suspects" are welcome back anytime you're in the area. Hope to catch up with you at Cobo in March.

Had a great time, excellent pictures Denise! When you ride with the Suspects, you ride in style, even provided you with a '69 Fair Lady to get your kicks. That pic of me with the purse, just may become my new avatar, ha ha. Hatter says that it's the best picture taken of me ever. :D

Thanks for sharing pics and clearing up the great Denise mystery. Looks like a real blast.

Rudy, you do a good job of being caretaker of the National HAMB Treasure. If she ever runs for president it's a shoo-in, especially since 17 yr old hotel clerks can't vote.

Denise, you should have offerred her a cookie!:D

    What a weekend!

Good to see you again Denise.

That Shoebox heading north belongs to Crash51 and his lovely bride. They are from Arlington Texas where the other "iron ***" FLT-BLK is from.

Big thanks to Crash and his wife for sharing their room with FLT_BLK and I and a HUGE thanks to FLT_BLK for sharing his bed with me.

    He's so gentle!
