Great Cadillac there, what a cool car!
I had a weird experience once at a cruise night at a restaurant. Pulled in, parked the Chevy, walked around a bit, then went inside to get supper. When I came out there's a dude next to my car telling his friends that he and a friend found the car and built it in 8 weeks. I asked him a few questions about the motor, transmission, gears, etc. I said "it is a really neat car" then I got in, started it, and drove home, hahahaha

I remember seeing that car many years ago maybe in the mid 90s at Goodguys Indy or NSRA north or maybe the KKOA in Davenport. I thought it was pretty cool then, but I kind of like wires and whites on it now, kind of gives it a cl***ic Caddy look. lol I built cars for customers for years and would laugh and shake my head when I would see the Built by Owner on the show car sighs. Oh well that's life.

Luckily no one want to take credit for building my junk.

  4. I blame the internet for this. (I blame the internet for everything). I've seen ads for new cars and it says you can "build it your way" (Like ordering flowery seat covers and a phone holder). So nowadays people think that if you glue/screw/stick things on or in a new car, they have somehow "built" it. No welding, painting or other skill required.

    That is some weirdness.

    HAH!

Back in HS talking to friend of a friend about painting a car, how much time, how much it cost in material/parts, etc.
We're walking over to his '63 Fairlane he just painted. He's got his friends with him, as we walk up there is some guy talking to some chick about how he did this and that to the Fairlane. FoF says, 'Oh wow, really, I really like this car.' All the while his three friends hop into the car. FoF then hops in, starts it, dumps the clutch and one wheel peels off.
Chick is freaking out, 'OMG they just stole your car!!'
I'm just howling. Didn't get a chance to check out the car directly that day, but it was worth watching the aftermath of the girl hounding the guy that he needs to call the cops over his 'stolen' car.

In 1979, I moved to southeast Arizona. I bought a 1933/1934 (with a filled 1932 grille) Ford 2 door sedan. No fenders, severely channeled over the frame, skinny front tires and big fat rear tires. I gave $1,500 and a starting to rust Datsun pickup truck. I got no history on this car.

This thing was beyond crude - we named it the Shot Rod. Alternator was mounted to the frame (not the engine). A bunch of wiring headaches. Sun faded paint. The list goes on. It took me a while to work out the mechanical and electrical bugs. Still was a junker - BUT - I was the coolest Cub Scout Master in Sierra Vista, AZ.

I met several "Know-It-Alls" who claimed to help build this car. The details never checked out.

One day, I got the real story:

    1. Someones now ex-wife wrecked a 1962 Chevy wagon (Engine numbers were for 1962)
    2. Body found in a wash (dry stream bed) and the driver door was all caved in (Door had at least 2 cans of bondo).
    3. Frame found leaning against a barn and the frame end was rusted through (verified - at least it was not structural (beyond the cross member)).

Like I said - severely channeled - the kids soon got too tall to sit in the back seat.

I should have divorced that wife a few years earlier and kept the car...

I'll admit to doing some goofy ****, but not to try and get laid, just being a **** brained teen:D
My wit, charm, and good looks was enough for that other dept.:p

He didn't look pissed, he was just standing there dumbfounded. It added to the hilarity. His brain just switched off looking all ><
I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up getting some pitty pu**y.

Same thing happened to me , built a 23T, sold it to a guy locally. He had it at a car show, I walked up and he was telling the surrounding crowd how he had built the car. I was lurking in the background and after the crowd dissipated, I walked up to him and just asked if he remembered me (it was 7 years since I sold it to him) and he immediately got all red in the face.

Oh, and I totally agree, the white walls and wire wheels are horrible.

The '36 is different, the new owners threw 6 figures at the car to make it look nothing like it used to, other than the profile of the body. New ch***is, SBC, nosebleed stance (compared to the original, very low stance). They paid for a complete rebuild, on top of what they paid for a finished car to make it reflect their taste (and maybe to make it not overheat in traffic ;)), they haven't p***ed it off as their original build. I have no issue with that one.

Sloppy wording on my part. I didn't intend to imply that the new owner had taken credit for building the car, only that he had made unfortunate changes to make it his own.

Did that car begin life as a more-door? The front doors look short-ish. Great conversion if so!

And it looked just like it besides it was a different color, had different wheels on it and a different engine in it. I can see that happening with a Model A. About a guy telling me that his brother had a truck just like mine but his was a Studebaker instead of a Chevy.
