"bullet bob calls bullshit" Nice working title.

Post a picture of the damn title and put it to an end. Fun thread though. VW guys are pickier than tradtional guys. Who knew?

You should take the r#t r#d off the pictures. It's a teutonic hot rod.

I have known Drew and his Dad for a long time. They do fantastic work and are two of the nicest guys I have ever met. Drew is extremely creative and is a hell of a fabricator. Everything I have seen him do is top notch. Far far far far from a poser..... that being said. Love the car or not, you have to appreciate the creativity and fabrication skills.

He was asking about the weight in pounds of one of the front tire, wheel, and hub assembly.

    Very nice fab work.

Not all that complicated, I live in Boston, I am in Socal about four months out of the year. I know I appear to ragging the guy, but I really DO like his car, and like I said if thats his work he has mad fab skills. I just am very curious as to how I and the a lot of the hommies, have been searching for early cars and titles for years, to the point to where we have friends on the inside at the Cali DMV who keep us up to date on EARLY registraions throughout the country, and ALL THE SUDDEN a pre 49 pops up, IN THE MID WEST ? Your right VW guys are more nit picky than even Mopar guys, a pre 49, hell even an early 50 is MORE rare in this country than say an original Hemi Race Dart with 50 og miles, they just aint out there. I was turned on to this forum by a guy who found the the post and immediatley contacted us hoping to collect a bounty. WHY would the title alone be any good? Well in the state of California the PAN NUMBER supercedes the vin plate on the front wheel well area, therefore if I have a title and vin for a 48 and a pan that has that number stamped into it ( I think everybody understands how to do that) then I in fact have a 1948 VW. Ethical ? HELL NO !, Legal ? ,Absolutely not. A hell of an ego trip and a conversation piece at the classic ? yep. As far as who built what first ? Franz Muir did not build the first Volksrod, HE DID however build the first Volksrod/Volkswagen to be named one of HodRod Magazines top ten of the year. Did this guy copy it ? I have no idea, it has been stated on this forum that he lives and breathes VW's, if so then he had to be aware of Death, anybody in the VW community knew about that car within days of its debut, those that had access to the secret build thread new for much longer than that. "The cars look nothing alike" uhhh ... you need to wipe your eyes and take another look, whoever it was that said that. Having said that, my offer stands $3000.00 and the title to a 55 showing 65'326 original miles. Dont want to sell it ? thats you perogative, and I respect that. Post up a scan of the title and say you dont want to sell and I will go away for ever. One last thing Monday around 2:00 pm I will have in my hands a list of EVERY VW Beetle from 1955 back registered in the state of Ohio, then we know for sure.

Let's start a separate thread for the title. I think I know the perfect place to put it...http://www.thesamba.com/vw/
No one here cares except for Bob and he promised to go away when this was resolved to the satisfaction that he thinks a complete stranger is somehow obligated to give him.
Show some other pictures of cars you have built though. The bug is awesome. I'd like to see more of your work.

I think I have obviously come across a tad......obnoxious, that was not my point. I will attempt to explain, imagine you have spent the last thirty years looking for an item, it could be anything, the rarest car you can think of, a special baseball card, a rare painting, what ever you into. You have looked high and low, traveled across the country, attempted to import this item from foreign countries. Then one day a friend mentions that a fellow on the internet says he has this item, the fellow on the internet mentions casually with no reverence at all. I have seen adult men at the Pomona swap meet come to blows over a particular rear view mirror, this item was their "holy grail". VW people are rabid about certain things, I firmly believe more so than most other followers of other makes and models, again I have witnessed HUGE arguments over things as small as wire loom clips. Its almost like I HAVE TO KNOW, I dont feel he owes me anything, in fact I think he has been the bigger man in this whole exchange, and it is abundantly clear that he has many freinds on this forum, I think that speaks volumns for his character. Perhaps I have obsessed a little too much over this, but my offers are sincere, and I do apoligize to one and all on this forum for any ill feelings I have caused. Again I dont feel he owes me anything, and if he chooses not to take me up on my offer, or even chooses not to reply to my posts thats fine. What does posting up picks of may cars prove ?, I am not a fabricator, and I have done nothing but praise the work that has been done on his car. My cars are well known in the VW community, plenty of pics on The Samba, and plenty of Samba people are following this thred now, its a big deal to us. I have no intentions of stirring the pot any further, I will have the info on Monday, due to the Governators "rotating" hours and shifts we have nobody we know there on Friday. If anybody is interested i will post the results on Monday after 2:00pm.

    Different way to do it...
    I like!

    These Vdub posts...WOW!
Most times they get shut down because the Trads are all over the Dubbers, or the Dubs get all preachy and want us to see the light...this one lives because its kinda cool and the owner/builder seems to get "it" regardless of what he's building... next thing ya know though, the VW guys are dramatizing each other anyway!!!
Ol' "bulletbob" sure has a bug up his ass over that title...:)

    Pure entertainment! Who knew!?!? Hahaha

Now you made me mad, I dont need him to show the title, like I said Monday I will have the list from the Ohio BMV, if there is a 48 titled in Ohio it will be on the list if not I will post it up and be done with the whole thing, why not just post it up now and all of you can laugh at me and have a good time, gonna be kinda imbarrassing if it goes the other way.

I like the whole "it's still just a VW" comment. Is that supposed to be a knock?! ha
    I like this one.
....but why does the shift shaft have a heat sink on it?
Also, the fan shroud issue(?), would it be possible to fore-go the upright shroud and build a 'glass duct work sneaking back inside the interior to an electric fan box?! Maybe? Then just have two big carbs sticking out like it's an alcohol engine? I don't know, just tossing out ideas.....

    That should work well.
Would most likely increase the cooling ability at idle as well compared to the original fan setup. Might even be able to relay the fans to deactivate under full throttle to cut some load on the generator/alternator and free up a couple of extra HP...in case he needs to get away from his stalker.

I don't see what's so wrong with VW's. They're steel aren't they? They're built with the same blood, sweat, and tears. And they make kick ass hot rods.

Before "Death".... Tobias built this around the same time, maybe just a little after Fred H. built the Stink Bug... 2002 or 3ish. IIRC. Probably the first "ratty", primered Volksrod, and it was shortened through the rear quarter window area... Fred's was VERY nicely finished.

Oh yeah... nice work... If you want to keep the motor low.. I'd think about a T3 with dual carbs and a dual buggy megaphone exhaust with four tips coming out on either side of the motor.

Like the chrome one in the middle:

The engine sticking up on "Death" looks a little goofy to me.

We love it. Be neat to make this a permanent caution vw thread. Customcory gets to work on his between weekly chemo. Today we discussed if or how 3 ribbed tires handle in rain.
