Haven’t been able to find a thread of pictures of classic tires. I drew inspiration from coldwarmotors who has a segment under the same name. This is the place to post that old tire that you have sitting around somewhere. Today, a Cordovan Deluxe tire, which I’m assuming is late 40s or early 50’s vintage. Pretty rough, but with a tube is still holding air. Before and after cleanup pictures are shown. Thanks, TR
my old eyes are not cooperating. is that a 16 inch or a 13 inch wheel/tire? I’m guessing it’s 16 inch. and it looks like a old bias tire (not a radial.) If it holds air just fine it might do OK as a spare. better than nothing.
I forgot to mention, the Cordovan was a 6.50 16” off of a 1940 Buick. In the mean time keep the tires coming! TR
Great tires so far! They just don’t make them, let alone name then like they used to. This is a 7.60 15” Sears Allstate Deeptread Traction Silent All Season tire. Before and after cleanup pictures are shown. Also located an ad from the 1957 Sears catalog with the tire shown on far right. TR
Two made in France 6.50 x 16 that were under a Delahaye barnfind/basketcase i had about 40 years ago. ( sold ages ago ) Someone painted them with a good quality primer. Just last week i pulled them out of the shed and the paint is still stuck on good. I was hoping the paint would have peeled off by now . Tires still seem to be good.
Two 5.00/5.20 x 14 that were under a Morris Minor convertible . Factory could,nt decide on a tread pattern . I,ve had these about 30 years, just for the heck of it.
I come up with old tires like some of these pretty often but I take them to the tire shop and pay to dispose of them PDQ because I know that if I don't I'll end up trying to put them on something and try to use them on the street. I've have enough new looking tires blow the tread off of them on the road or just sitting in the garage that I know how dangerous they are.
One N.O.S. skinny 5.00/5.60 x 15 B.F. Goodrich whitewall that i,ve had about 10 years and two N.O.S. AVON 4.50/4.75 x 16 that were supposed to go on a 1930 Amilcar .
I'm not going to crawl up in the garage attic to take pictures of them, but I have a pair of Goodyear Blue Streak cheater slicks; if I remember correctly they're 9.00-14. Hard as rocks. I recommend watching the weekly YouTube videos from Coldwar Motors, they regularly have a My Classic Tire segment that's pretty funny.
My dad usually ran recaps on his bottom dump and transfer trailer. Well, driver tires too. They all looked good until mounted and aired up, you could see on some of them the webbing happening on the sidewalls. Dismount and take them back. My labor was cheap. I’m not saying to not run them. It’s your(whoever’s) choice. Heck, I bought a set of tractor tires on wheels aired up for my Massey, looked good. Guess they’d been around for a long time, took about two years for them to just start coming apart. Can’t hurt myself or others with a bad tire on a tractor though, I was trying to save money. Still ended up with a lotta work and a 1400 dollar bill.
Here's a U.S.Royal Master XP-140 (?) ... we called them Ribbies. A pair of slicks from a bankrupt auction barn. And a 7.60 - 15 Luxaire
Today, a spare off of dad’s 57 Chevy which proves itself to be a Sears Allstate Guardsman. Probably a mid 80’s vintage but still holding air. It’s also a 6.50 14” and pictures are shown of the before and after cleanup. More classic tires to come! Thanks, TR
I suppose I'll have to go and take some pics, I've got a few noteworthy ones. But for now, here's a pic of the Power Custom gold stripe tires I had on a '64 Oldsmobile years ago.
i remember cordovan tires. they were bargain tires and sold by a discount parts store, lamperts, locally. they're made in mexico and sold in the '70s; maybe '80s.
Here's a few that were fairly easily accessible, there's more that I'll try to get pics of next time I'm near them. The nicest looking pair of knobbies on the rack are reproduction Allstates, the rest are all old. Worn out Hood White Arrow Wards Riverside Power Grips in various sizes. Need a few of these in 17" if anyone is holding. Firestone 16" ribs 12" midget tires, Wards Riverside and others. Mohawk Airflo in use on my bobtail car. Mobil Socony Vacuum 18" on the front of my roadster Goodyear All Weather 6.00-18 on the rear of my roadster BFG Long Miler 16" on the front of the bobtail car Riverside 19" Next two are same 6.00-16 tire with different names, 'Safety Master' and 'Custom Service' Allstate 16" in use on the bobtail car.
@34 GAZ That's just a cut down model A brake drum. I'm not running front brakes on the car, it's not street legal, so I cut them down to the wheel center diameter.
