    OK...maybe it's cl***ified as more a Street Beast then a g***er....but WTH....

I told a few I would post pics and wanted to show off the plate that Sodbuster gave me......I'm awfully proud of that plate...does it show?....

I started this before the winter now it's getting painted and should be done by spring......

The paint is med grey flaked roof with metallic red body....It was a Caliente for those in the know....but I changed all the badging to Clyclone...so we'll call it a Cyclone for all pratical purposes..

I used a 51 F-1 Ford axle and drums up front...of course I couldn't resist, so I drilled and chromed it...

I installed a 59 Ford nine inch out back. It's about 1 1/2 inches too wide on both sides so later I may narrow an axle...but now I'll just drive it.....

I mounted the 9 inch under the rear leafs and it just about raised it perfect to match the front....but I want the front about 1 1/2 inches higher.......nose bleed for the Comet generation...

  10. Hey Rad****,

You are Da Man ! That is about as period perfect and traditional as it gets for '60's style Street G***ers(tm). I love it.

Reminds me of the many straight axled cars that were popular in Chicago, on the streets and U.S.30, in the late sixties.

    You Rule!

All that makes a Cyclone a Cyclone...grill wise is a chrome rectangular surround in the grill....Long story short..I lost that piece but have another lined up.....I may just paint the grill bars flat black and forgo the chrome piece though...few know what it looks like... [IMG]

If I had the knowhow back then, it woulda been a straight axle and altered wheelbase...No skills or money though....I'm envious of your comet....gotta have a ride when it's done......my vote is for a 427!!!!

Sam...the HAG...(35 Plymouth Coupe) is completely torn down...getting the frame sand blasted and building a cage....I'll still be building that for the Drags but this car is my street terrorizer...not enough straight axle cars on the road for me.....

Hatch...finding the right 428 parts has been my thorn in the side...I have a 390 with 060. bore and found a stroker crank.....I may go with that if the CJ motor agravates me enough.......I'm thinking stacks thru the hood Hilborn though...

    Funny thing about that axle....
The chrome guy here in town quoted me 200 dollars if all he did was plate it, no polishing or cleaning up the cast and casting seams....

Well, I get there to pick it up, and I started unwrapping it on the counter.......when he saw it , it must of been the first time...his eyes got really big and he said " damn, they polished the **** out of that thing" So, it was obvious there was a communication problem with the hired help........It was totally show quality, no casting seams or cast marks.....beautiful...I didn't complain. I paid the man and left in a hurry...

Alright - I am dumb when it comes to g***ers. But I love that thing!

I wanna build one. What's involved in such a project? Is such a car streetable?

Here is what I have to work with, sitting around. I want to make one on the cheap with what I have, may it be 100 percent trad or not.

    Here is what I have:

'64 Ranchero, solid TX truck - It will have no rear axle or susp under the front, no motor or trans

'72 F-100 front end susp, steering column and steering box
    400 Ford and C6, I could probably pick up a 9".

Would that stuff work? I have never looked at one up close, personally. It would be fun to use up some of that junk.

    They are very streetable......

I had a 68 Ford Ranchero with an axle from an Econoline back in the 80's....I drove it back and forth from Denver to Albuquqerque every weekend for two years. 880 miles round trip, I loved that car......I also used to be able to drive it off road with my friends that drove Toyota four wheel drive pick ups...they were amazed at the places I could go...

Your 72 is twin I -beam you need an axle from a 64 and older Ford truck....use a 48-51 F-1...they are the right width..Neal
