Hey Mark! How's it going? I've got a Man-A-Fre for the 283 in my '40 Ford. What did you use for carbs? I've read that 57-58 Chevy truck 2gcs are optimal. I have 5 or 6 mid '60's Impala 2gcs lying around though.

I checked out the other thread. You have a very nice collection of automobiles. I bet who ever sells battery.s and fuel stablizer loves you. About 40 years ago I purchased a 2 barrell for a circle track car from man a fre. It was made from a 57 pont core and they told me it flowed over 700 feet.

  6. Mark, is there anything you have that does ****?
The 40 and the Vette are outstanding man!

somewhere I have a reprint of a man a fre tech manual. I think they recommend carbs from 57-58 olds or pontiac if I remember correctly. Mine came with the carbs that are on it but no stamped numbers or tags to go by. took it for a little ride yesterday and oh boy does it move!!!!

Very nice!! Friend of mine here has a ManaFre ? setup on his 32 with a hot small block-runs very strong. He is 80 and an old sprint car/circle track driver and has his dialed in-drives it everywhere. He may have another one in his stash-will have to ask him. He also had a very unusual setup with 4 carbs on a Rochester FI base plate-sold it I think.

Too cool. @man-a-fre has one on his model A and loves it. I drove it a loooooong time ago and recall the response being very quick as well.

Thanks! I may have that manual. I have bought a bunch of paperwork regarding this intake. I've read that they are almost as close to fuel injection as you can get without actually having it. I've got a 1960 Vette 283 with power-pack heads and an 097 cam that I'm building to 270 hp specs. Its also got a 4-speed and a '60 Impala rear. Apparently a '40 pickup only weighs within 200 lbs or so of a 60 Vette, so it should run pretty good! Thanks, Curt

Wow, what a great Corvette! With that cool intake along with all the mild custom touches, white top, and killer stance, you've achieved a level of period-perfect perfection that's in high harmony with the hot rod angels!

You now have to post results. I've been debating doing this on my 63 for months...

So while we are talking about it; has any one run a man-a-fre and another 4 carb set up such as the Offy offerings to see how they compare?

I imagine they can't be all that different but all the rave reviews I read about the 4 carb intakes are man-a-fre

Thanks man! I am just doing what people did to these cars when they were new. Now it seems people are scared to touch em. It's got pearl tuck n roll and a cragar steering wheel too ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1458841020.458594.jpg

Looks fantastic, love the man-a-fre and all the subtle improvements :)

Only downside to the only man-a-fre setup I've owned was fuel consumption was pretty high, albeit mine was on a big block Chevy

Hope to see it at the drive inn this year..... I hear they are open but with the 5" we got here yesterday we need more rain before I get anything back on the road. It was good while it lasted.....

Haha, maybe they will be jealous because they are too afraid to modify their cars

Great looking ride. I've never seen a 61 with a 58 hood and that int. is killer too !! I don't have it in me to much to the 57'. I know I'll have to sell it someday. I'd love to find a man-e-fre set up for the coupe too.

Well I thought I would update this 8 year old post.
About a year or so ago in an effort to try to troubleshoot another problem on my Corvette I removed the Man A Fre and put an L79 manifold and a 600 Edelbrock carb. as it turns out the Man aA Fre was not the problem but I procrastinated on putting it back on. The linkage for the 4 carbs was orig Man A Fre parts and admittedly some of the rod ends were worn out or loose and sloppy. The whole mess was kinda ****py looking. I bought a pile of RH and LH 1/4" rod ends and some 1/4" stainless rod and made new linkage for it. Also grabbed 4 kits and went thru the carbs just for good measure.
I never told anyone I took the 4 carb setup off and while the 4 barrel setup ran real good it was not nearly as fast as it was with the Man A Fre. Here is a pic of the 4 bll manifold on the car
    [IMG] [IMG]

Here is the Man A Fre with its new linkage (smooth as a gravy sandwich now) and rebuilt carbs
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

So I got off my *** and put the Man A Fre back on, just fired it up and all is now well with the world

Awesome! The man a fre powered car I’ve driven has throttle response like a rocket ship! Glad to see the vette back with 4 carbs
