I just reread this. Bud and Don and Bruce and George Cambell (Salt Circus) have all died since then. Damn. Time flies I guess.
When I sold it, I wanted to sell it. $4000. Today I don't think the current owner wants to sell it. That would no doubt be reflected in the price. In other words I can't afford my old car. Anyway the old car of mine I really want is pictured below. I would be happy to spend more than it's worth to buy my first back.
I paid $75 for it. Unloaded it on the salt for $4400 including the trailer. Dollar went farther then.
I don't want to get off the topic of your coup and I think building a '32 coupe with the intention of racing is pretty traditional but when you get tired of the V4 roadster and you're looking for a young guy interested in history to sell it to, cheap, give me a call!
wheres the thread tag... "waaaaahhh i sold my car" "waaaaahhh the new guy put a sbc in it" "wahhhh its still on the road being driven" "wahhh it aint mine no more" **** it up dude
Fink (You named your self, not me) what makes you think it's being driven? Did you look at the pictures? Did you read any of the posts? Do they teach comprehension in the rust belt? If the car was running on the street I would think that was great. Having had 11 years to install a SBC without getting it running is disapointing to me. If you ever get a nice car and own it for a long time you may understand attachment to a car.
you raced that?! model T frame and a hemi? torque steer and frame twist? that must have been one hell of a ride!
Rich...going back to your running the Bob Dalton 'liner. Did you partner with him? My Lincoln NE group tried to buy it from Bob after we gave up on getting the 990 Golden Rod over 200 in 1987. One day he would, next day he wouldn't. We needed to have a car completed for August '88, and moved ahead with building Swamp Rat 33 from scratch. It's just so damn interesting what little tidbits pop up here almost every day.
Well I can't really argue with you there. I don't think I would build a car like that today. I do think it would be a pretty good show watching me get kicked out of anyplace I tried to race it. But that was then. Things were different. We were ignorant and would live forever. Times change. Now i know I won't live forever.
The 258 Chevy Bob had in his car was in my roadster when I bought it. Not being a SBC kind of guy (Yes I have one in my Lark) I sold it to Bob. One year Bob decided he wanted to put the GMC in his car and let his first wife drive. So we did and took it to WoS. She got strapped in and decided she was going to puke at the start line. So we got her out of there and Bob drove it once. Blew the head gasket and tourched the Horning head. 202. Later I had some involvement in a Jr Fuel car that Bob was part owner and driver. Bob now has a 500 KB in the 'liner and says he will run in '10. His boys have been running super modifieds and midgets and I guess one of them will drive.
Nope..I didnt.. will it change my life..? i doubt it.. but it was not about the car that did it for me., or the fact you sold it.it was your at***ude about the engine that set me back but i do understand it was purpose built and should have what it was built for ..if it were still yours..but it isnt. doesnt this fall under the "its his car he can do what he wants to it?" maybe he needs you to come over and help him build the engine you want in it. I do understand attachment to things, cars in particular
In all fairness to you Rich, I do understand that. In fact, I understood that about 20 years ago, when I switched from the Racer I had most of my succeses with to a singleseater. Thats why I kept it, and I only have to look up from my keyboard to take a look at it... Who knows what might happen in the future, and what I might have to do to survive. But that will be the last one to go...
I had that car a long time. It was fairly well recived. It was in 8 magazines that I saw. At Orange County, Fremont, Bonneville and El Mirage. Frank Oddo, Baskerville, and Pat Ganahl all pictured it. Was on TV a couple of times. Guy that has it now has not hurt it. The Chevy went in it can come out. I gave him a long deal because I understood he was someone who got things done and was going to drive it. So far that hasn't happened. Am I going to accost him? No. But I have a right as a tax paying American to ***** about anything i want to. You have a right to ignore me.
I'll go with that. just keepin ya on yer toes.. Nice car too. to be honest if i found my first car and the guy went and put an sbc in it i would be pissed to, because it was a Mopar!
