I am sorry to let you know that Bill Watson p***ed away the evening of Jan 12th at 6:30pm. He was at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was a Moss Landing Marine Labs graduate and worked in the Engineering Lab. He designed the Leatherback Turtle camera attachment a**** many other projects and enjoyed ***isting students on thesis projects before he retired in 2013.

Bill was the catalyst for getting several MLML grad students interested in bluegr*** music, and was present for weekly bluegr*** jams in the Phys Oce Lab, welcoming anyone who was interested. He handed me my first bluegr*** banjo and started me off with my first tune. He was always up for music-( as long as it didn't have drums!) Just a week ago, he was still playing banjo with us when we visited. His final, and most impressive project at MLML was BanjoWorks-- where he taught six students/staff how to build 5-stringed open backed banjos from scratch!! He fabricated a number of tools for the project and was meticulous and patience throughout the endeavor.

We will respectfully and fondly remember Bill and we have started a scholarship in his name.

    Be well
