Pretty pumped and posted also in the "Recent finds and buys" section My '40 dlx CTC auction buy, will be scouring JJ & the H.A.M.B. for ideas/pointers/tips. Who would have thought FoMoCo truly perfected the automobile in 1940? An ignition switch locking the steering column in '40?, that one kicked my arse for a week, couldn't imagine. The "Brooks" is as close as I can find to a reference for my vision. 351M, manual/9", definitely not quite that low and not blown either. Any guesses as to how much total drop in the front on the "brooks" car? I'm still soaking all suspension hardware in PB. Front suspension all original except for shock removal. Trying to get an idea as to what axle/spring combo to aim for. Don't want to lose/chg the original wishbone and especially on this project very much aiming to use what I have on hand as much as possible. The "M" engine choice is because I have a decent one sitting around and the 9" is already in the car. Don't want to, but can't find a way around cutting firewall yet. As much as I like them, the mustang wheels are only for making it roll, chrome or contrasting color steelies/reversed? Gotta figure out that trans mount/crossmember. The interior will never be really "nice/fancy". Has anybody just modified stock crossmember for driveline angle and left the trans to be removed through interior for service? Surf boards in place of ladder racks in TX??? more questions coming. hope the images aren't wasteful. Well I thought my comment that the wheels being just to make it roll(as in into the shop for work) would have covered the issue of the late model lg dia. wheels. The inclusion of those images was for the purpose of showing just how high it sits with what I believe to be stock front and crudely added 9" rear suspension. Edited images show desired stances sans offensive wheels. Still looking for comments/suggestions on wheels/axles/springs/trans mount/surf board on top (inTX?) etc. I will still be aiming for the look of the Brooks car with a stance no lower than the coupe image. Wondering about back spacing/offsets of reversed wheels vs steelies and the impact on choice of axle width/drop/reversed eye spring up front etc. Since already moved to off topic, safe to mention likely going to coil overs in the rear. How much shock travel/length/spring rate suggested by anybody already been here??? Also seriously looking for 39dlx/40std grill that wont break the budget. If can't find decent one for 1k max($500 for presentable driver quality out of the ???), likely to make a custom recreation from aluminum or ss. Almost have all the rivets out of the x frame center section and moving on to fabbing replacement. Since this will support both trans tail and the wishbone I don't want to split, anybody been there/ done this care to comment on making said center section removable for bottom access for trans removal with a std wishbone. Maybe since interior will be rather rat rod-ish, I should aim for making it removable top or bottom???? 3 hours a day & 3 days a week is my max time allotment for this project and aiming to have it drivable in 12 mos.
