My Dad... and a WARNING! NOT that O/T...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Hot Rod To Hell, Mar 5, 2006.

  1. So sorry to hear this. It does show how life can change in an instant. Prayers for your father. Sounds like he is strong, the chemically induced coma is a good thing, it allows him to heal and not create additional problems.

  2. Prayers sent to you and yours. Typing this with large lump in throat and tears…

  3. So sorry to hear this. Hope and prayers are headed your way.

Why is it that 9 times out of 10 a decent guy pays for the idiots negligence? Keep your head up and your fingers crossed.

Sounds to me like your dad is one seriously tough man! If anyone can pull through it, sounds like it would be him. Hope he gets the rest and healing he needs. Same goes for you. Prayers are with your whole family.

Our prayers are with you all.
My wife was a nurse in the cancer ward and in emergency before she became disabled, and here is her advice from years of working with severely hurt people and from close brushes with death on her own:
HEARING is the last sense to go uot on people who are sedated, near coma, or just very badly hurt. People can ofte hear when you and the doctors believe they cannot. So:
    1. When you are allowed to speak in his area again, speak to him even if you are told he cannot possibly hear you. AND
    2. Do NOT allow doctors and nurses to stand by his bed and discuss him as an unhearing, unconscious piece of meat even if he is in a coma. You can never know how much is getting through, and none of it should be bad, pessimistic, or unfeeling!

So sorry to hear this news. My heart goes out to you, your family and especially your Dad, who obviously is a great guy even though I have never met him.

Two weeks ago, My Mother was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. During the MRI and other tests, they found 80% blockage on one side and 100% blockage on the other, among other issues. Dr's said her chances of surviving any intrusive operation would be about 15%.

She has decided to live out her last few months as is and we support her decision. We asked her what she would like to do during this time, and she asked Vicki (my Wife) if she would bring her to Autorama to get a chance to see what I do for a living. Saturday, Vicki picked her up and she was able to get the "VIP Tour" of the show.

It sounds like your Dad is a tough guy and will pull through this tragedy. Remember to take care of YOURSELF, as I am sure from what has been said that this would be a big priority to him. Let's all keep a positive attitude and plan on seeing you and your Dad at next years Autorama.

If I can help in any way, you know how to get a hold of me.

Steve, hearing you tell this yesterday was just heartbreaking...your Dad is a wonderfull person and I was really looking forward to seeing him at the show. The news of what happened really made me sad, but I was glad you were able to make it there for a while at least...as your family said, I'm sure that's exactly what your Dad would have told you to do!

Don't think twice about giving a call if you need anything.

The human spirit is tough to kill, and your Dad has plenty to spare...I'm confident that he'll be back in the game before too long...and I hope to see him at the wheel of that 55 soon!

Thoughts and prayers with you always.

Steve, I was pretty shocked by it all since he was there with all of us on Thursday, times like this I really don't know what to say, and I don't think there's much you can say to make someone feel any better, but he's been in my prayers since you told us yesterday and I'm glad to hear he's responding to what's going on around him.

Man reading that totally choked me up. I truly wish there was anything else we could all do but offer moral support, but that's how these things go.

I've seen some pretty devastating injuries, but among them there were also some flat out amazing recoveries. May your dad be among them.

  20. All the Pothole Surfers were looking forward to hanging out with you Sat. and then we heard what happened. We are all praying for your dad to get well soon. As much of a pain in my ass my dad is some times I still love him and don't know what I would do if he wasn't around. By the way, your car looked great. I took a bunch of shots of it.
