My prayers are with him.I have a boneyard and the yardapes will amaze with their stupidity. I've had several get killed by their own stupidity and hurt me.if you tried to hire intelligent help you wouldn't ever open the doors. get with the owner and get the insurance company and OSHA involved with safety seminars, the the CULLS can be culled legally. My prayers will be there.

    Just got home....

    The surgery went well...

Nobody can track down the ENT, or his report, to see how things went on his end  ; but the oral surgeon dad had is AWESOME.

This guy has been VERY helpful, informative, and willing to answer questions, regardless of how many times my crazy relatives asked him the same ones!

As soon as the surgery was done, he came right into the waiting room and talked with us for almost an hour, just making sure all of our questions and concerns were addressed!

He said things were quite a bit worse than originally thought once he got him opened up, but that everything went really well.

He ended up opening the cheek/lip wound back up to get a better shot at his teeth/bone, and he said it's a really good thing he did, because there were actually bone AND metal fragments inside the wound!

When he put him back together, he did a MUCH better job than was originally done, and dad looks GREAT!:)

Anyway, he was stable and resting when I left for the night...:)

    Thanks again!

    Steve,
That's fantastic news. Let's hope that the worst is over and that every day now your dad will get a little better. I'm sure it will be a slow process but it so encouraging that he ia heading in the right direct. Take care.

    Home again!

    He's doing GREAT!:D

His chest Xrays show even more improvement!

He's breathing on his own, he's only on a CPAP machine now (continuous positive airway pressure)!:)

He had ZERO drainage from his chest tube today!

The bleeding/drainage from the surgery has almost completely stopped!

His swelling and everything from the surgery's going down and he looks great (well, considering what they had to work with...;) )!

And, they have his sedative turned down to half of what it has been since this happened... they said they'll have him fully awake in 2 or 3 days!:)

    Thanks for everything guys!:)
    I'll keep ya posted!

That's great! It is unusual to bounce back from that sort of trauma. I'll keep praying.

Hey guys, I haven't posted an update in a couple of days, because I had a nice long one all typed out, and my daughter bumped the power button on the computer!

    So.... Here's the condensed version!

    Dad's doing good...

When I was up there last night, he opened is eyes to look at me (only for a second), and when my Mom told him she loved him, he looked at her and smiled (as much as he could)!:)

They are most likely going to remove his chest tube today.

They tried removing the CPAP yesterday, but he must have still been a little too sedated, because his breathing got a little too quick and a little too shallow; so they're going to try again today.

Now that he's starting to come around, he's not too excited about his situation!

He is NOT liking being restrained... he was tugging on the restraints pretty good last night.

He was also trying to yawn, and that just looked painful! (his jaw is wired shut!):(

Also, while it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, he had an allergic reaction to the antibiotics they had him on, so he has a rash from head to toe!:(
They're supposed to apply some sort of cream today to help it go away...

We've received cards from a few HAMBers so far, and I just want to say "Thanks!".
My whole family has commented on how amazing it is that people he's never met, from all over the country, are sending him cards...
I told them that the HAMB is the nicest group of people on the planet!:)

Thanks again for everything guys, and I'll keep you posted!

    Glad he's doin' better.

  14. My grandpop had that same allergic reaction... a different antibiotic and one Benedryl cleared it up.

When Kasey saw him she said "Oh wow! He looks GREAT!"...

I said "Well, I wouldn't go THAT far, but he looks pretty good considering what he looked like BEFORE the accident!".

He gave my hand a pretty biq squeeze... :D

Glad its going in the right direction, i feared the worst when I started reading this post! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your father!!

My father had a stroke three years ago at the age of 50, and according to the doctors they didnt give him much of a chance!! He is now paralyzed in the left side of his body, but he survived and actually just got his drivers license back this summer! He never lost faith and fought for it!!

  23. I just read the entire thread. Reminds me of when "Spuds" mom was involved in a traffic accident and got hurt.
I'm really glad things are going better for your dad. I lost my dad about 3 years ago but he died in his sleep, prretty peacefully...
Congrats and tell your dad we're all pulling for him.

Just got home again... he's doing really good!

He does have an infection in his lung, but they told us that was likely to happen...

Anyway, every time I talked to him, he would look at me, and he was shaking his head yes or no to all of my questions and comments... I got a couple of half-smiles out of him too.

He kept trying to talk to me, so I had to keep telling him just to rest... we'll talk in a few days when the trach's out and he's feeling better.

His rash from the allergic reaction is almost completely gone...

BUT(!), remember how I was talking about him trying to yawn with his jaw wired shut?

The crazy old man popped all of the wires holding his jaw shut today!

The oral surgeon said he's not gonna wire him back up for a couple of days; all of the plates, pins, and bars are still in place, and they're the important parts.

    Anyway, that's today's report!:)

  28. Let me add my prayers to all the others. It's that much worse when it's not your fault, and you didn't see it coming. If I can help from Milwaukee, let me know.
