    He's doing really well!:)

He's walking without a walker, he's talking (too much? :D ), he can chew soft foods now, etc...

He's going Friday to get fitted for teeth, and the remaining wires in his mouth should be out very soon.

He pushes himself a little further every day, so he IS having pretty frequent muscle aches, but he says it's nothing severe.

He still has the broken ribs (obviously) so he has to be really careful with those (and it's funny to watch him tense up when people get ready to give him a hug!).

His jaw gets sore occasionally too, but considering that the surgeon said he assembled it from like the 10 biggest pieces or something, I think that's to be expected....

The only MAJOR thing we're still dealing with is the MRSA. He gets HEAVY DUTY antibiotics through an IV twice a day.

The doctors are STILL commenting on how amazing his recovery is...
They say that not only should he NOT be walking or talking right now, he should still be in the hospital; and even then he should be in a COMA right now!

Considering that a couple of months ago, they weren't even sure he'd survive, we're pretty excited by his recovery too!:)

ALSO: He remembers what happened! He says that the torch wasn't even lit... He was going to blow the oxygen through a fuel line in an attempt to dislodge a slug of ice, and he said the last thing he remembers is squeezing the handle.:(

I remember a warning post on here a while back about opening oxygen tanks with oily gloves; I'm guessing it's the same thing here.... the oxygen reacted with the fuel, setting it off!

    BE CAREFUL!!!!!

It made my day to see that beat up old fucker walk up to myself and Jdubbya at a swap meet. He had a wlker then but 6 days later, he arrived sans walker at a car cruise. He's a fighter and I 'm glad to know him.

Hang in there--we're doing the antibiotic infusion thing here too; my wife has MRSA in her foot, picked up at a hospital, and we've been fighting it for a year now. Keep on stomping those bugs! They're tough, but we're tougher!

My wife the CNA says they are not allowed to use any ointments or other oily substances for patients on oxygen. It does react. I hope others here learn from your dad's bad fortune.

  21. Yes, the main basis for ointments is petrolatum. Petroleum jelly in other words. I'll bet that was knowlege aquired the hard way.
